Import Pakistani drivers from Birmingham, Derby and Dewsbury give them a badge and sat nav and send them on their way.

And giving them a satnav is useless in most cases, as I witnessed myself at Brum International Airport a few days ago.

Passenger approaches first turn with a piece of A4 paper. First turn cabbie looks at paper & calls out to third turn cabbie in a langauge that I do not understand. Third turn cabbie comes to first turn cab. First turn cabbie disconnects satnav from mounting in his cab & hands it to third turn cabbie. Third turn cabbie looks at passenger's address on piece of A4 paper & inputs the post code into first turn's satnav. First turn re-mounts the satnav into his cab, opens cab door, loads passengers & drives off.

Taxi driving UK 2010, FFS!!!

but where was he going?

a BHX rank cabbie cant be expected to have an encyclopedic knowledge down to street level on nottingham, northampton or telford can he, be fair

No, but he could be expected to input the post code to the sat nav himself.

The point I was making was that first turn cabbie did not know how to put the post code into his own satnav!!!

Nigel, are these new drivers just "jockeys" or actual car owners? they wont have a job for long will they

Jockeys mate.

There's another angle on this that you have probably all missed.

Mike, Graham Abdul or Tahir sets up a new PH firm in an area. The new operator sends some incompetant drivers to the best PH firm in town to wreck their business. Mike's, Graham's, Abdul's or Tahir's new PH firm now begins to thrive due to customer dissatisfaction with the best PH firm in town, whose business is now going down the pan.

It's been done thousands of times over the years in Brum.

But usually to a newish PH firm.

They wait until they have built up a reasonable number of customers, then send in the destruction mob.
