One driver I knew stopped outside a pub for a booking and beeped the horn. 2 police officers walking by stopped and asked him "Why don't you go in and call your customer?"
"Do I look like a gopher?" He replied. They gave him a fixed penalty for "improper use of a motor horn"

what about all the van drivers (anything bigger than a punto) doing 70+ on a dual carriageway when the speed limit FOR THEM is 60

a copper could earn his seargents stripes with the tickets he could issue daily on that one

I think you may be incorrect with the van size.

Any van with a maximum gross weight of over 2000kg(loaded or unloaded) is subject to a limit of 60mph on a dual carriageway and 50 mph on a single carriageway. a colleague just had an interesting court case where the DPP didn't know the correct speed limit for his van.

Basically any car-derived van (the Govt website lists as examples the Fiesta, Astra, Punto, 207 and Clio) up to 2 tonnes gross has the same speed limit as a car.

The limit for larger goods vehicles depends on whether their gross weight is over 7.5 tonnes.

Had a Vauxhall Combo van when I was couriering, which had a handy payload of 666kg, with a gross weight limit of 1995kg.

The 2 ton limit I beared in mind when choosing a van, and it's probably obvious the van was designed with this weight with those car speed limits in mind.

The new Combo, I believe is now over 2 tonnes gross weight, and is now subject to the lower 60/50 DC/SC speed limits.
