I am still in favour of the 1st past the post system but your idea that 30% of winning seats would reflect 30% of the winning vote is incorrect.
With the first past the post system you could actually have one party take every seat in the country but actually only have 650 votes more than the 2nd party. Or they could actually take an overall majority with less votes than the second party, which does actually happen.

Its obvious why the Tories and Labour dont want it, but 23% (almost 1 in 4) of voters voted Liberal, it clearly is not right they only get 57 of 650 seats?

Tories 10,706,647 (36.1%) seats 306
Labour 8,604,358 (29.0%) seats 258
Liberals 6,827,938 (23.0%) seats 57

What is the point in voting in a system that is flawed? Your vote should count regardless, then again we are a country of sheep being led up the path by a bunch of sheep shaggers anyway, so no point in worrying about it....  8)

If we have a "first past the post" system how come 258 beats 306?....

Then long may it last or else nothing nothing inspiring will ever happen in politics...it will just be a mish mash of interparty appeasement with no thought to curing the ailments that dog the electorate...We're at deaths door financially in the UK...one more push and we will be Greeces bedmate. :?

But didn't all this occur under the system you approve of?

you can see why the liberals are in favour of proportional representation

Liberals 6,827,938 (23.0%) seats 57

a 65% turnout 29,653,638

And yet,

In the 1992 election Liberal vote, 17.8% 20 seats. 6,000,000 votes.

In the 1997 election Liberal vote, 16.8% 46 seats. 5,250,000 votes.

Less is more?

If we had PR Nick Griffin would probably be an MP by now, lets keep it as it is.
