apparently they have a PR spend of 8 million a year and employ around 180 people in their PR department

no wonder it's costing so much !

I also think the contractors, as is the case on any HM Gov contract, are taking financial liberties.

in 10 years time it'll all be over and we will have outr nice shiny new high speed line which links west london to birmingham and not to HS1, Euston or the north so will be a big flop as it will not be much use to anyone.

And to prevent a labour government reinstating the project they are having a firesale to sell off all the compulsorarily purchased land to stop any future government being easily able to reinstate the project other than at a massively increased cost

Concorde - financial failure
M6 toll - financial failure
Chunnel - financial failure

TGV and the Spanish AVE rail are a success................probably cheaper than a HS2 ticket

Quote:
Why is Spanish high-speed rail so cheap?
“Competition between state-owned train company Trenitalia and privately owned Italo on the main high-speed line has driven up quality and passenger numbers, but pushed down prices by between 20 and 25 per cent,” he explains. “It's to the benefit of everyone except domestic airlines.”
