I suppose . . . . Mr Skippy41 would have to move house . . .

How does 10 Downing Street sound Mr Skippy41?

I had that Vince Cable in the back of my cab...

Grant's verdict ... 'Vince didn't live up to his big billing - I'm not sure his sums add up'

Published: 15 Apr 2010

OUR vehicle for democracy in Election 2010 - The Sun Cab - has Vince Cable in the back seat today.

The Lib Dem Treasury Spokesman, who wants to be re-elected MP for Twickenham on May 6, was quizzed by floating voter Grant Davis, 46, a real London cabbie.

GRANT: I'm a floating voter. What do the Lib Dems bring to the party?

VINCE: I think we've come up with the right answers as far as the economic crisis is concerned. One of the key things we're looking at for the future is getting the tax system fairer, so ordinary working people get a tax cut.

IS there a quick fix solution to the economic mess?

It's very complicated. We got into a mess as a result of a year and a half of a boom that got out of control. There was a lot of greed - and a lot of stupid lending by the banks.

WHO do you think is to blame for our mess?

It's not just one source of blame, but the Government did let the boom get out of control. We were warning them five or six years ago that this was getting out of control and they needed to rein it back, so they do have a share of the blame.

AM I right in saying you were a supporter of the euro?

When it first came in, there was an argument for it, providing the British people had a say in a referendum. But if the conditions were right, we'd have been up for it.

WHEN Alistair Darling was first talking about printing more money, you said it was the Robert Mugabe school of economics. A few months later you said it was the right thing to do.

No, I was warning that if it got out of control, you would get into the Robert Mugabe school of economics. It's an experiment that we're doing, it's never been done before except a little bit in Japan.

WITH politics going through a slump with the sleaze and expenses, respectability in politics is at an all-time low. Will there be a poor turnout?

You're right that politics has got a very bad name and a lot of MPs behaved very badly, but I think a lot of people will turn out to vote because they want to say something.

DO you agree the Labour Government spends money like a drunken sailor?

They have done and it's got out of control. This lot set up all sorts of quangos absorbing billions of Pounds and just ticking boxes. We'd get rid of all that.

IF there was a hung parliament and Mr Brown phoned and asked you to be Chancellor, would it appeal to you?

It wouldn't appeal to me as an individual. I'm not going to be bought by them or the Tories. It's a team game and I'm a Lib Dem.

FINALLY, a few tricky ones... how much is a pint of milk?

In my newsagent's across the road it's 50p, but if I had time to go to Tesco it would probably be about 45p. (Spot on)

WHICH English player got injured in the Man Utd v Bayern Munich game?

Rooney, wasn't it? (Correct)

And how much is a pint of beer?

I'm a lager man rather than a beer man. It's bloody expensive, about three quid. (Correct)

Grant's verdict ... 'Vince didn't live up to his big billing - I'm not sure his sums add up'

The purpose of the comment was merely to say that as a tax incentive £4,000 wouldn't work for me. Personally I don't think I'm the marrying kind. Also if it takes somebody an incentive of money before they are prepared to make the committment of marriage then perhaps they shouldn't be getting married anyway
