It is what Maclaren thinks himself is that worries me

You should have heard him on the radio last night - nothing wrong - all positives - good work out - yeah everything ok  . Can't fault the guy, his glass/cup is always half full.

I really feel for you all, the talent that is being wasted by the managers that England have chosen for them.

If the manager fails, then the people who employ him should also go, as their judgement is some what clouded to say the least.

Manchester United Will Spend Ronaldo £80 Million 'on chocolate'

17th June 2009

In a surprise announcement today, Manchester United revealed how they intended to spend the money generated by Ronaldo's move to Real Madrid. Many fans, though, will be disappointed by exactly how that money will be used.

Rather than buy a replacement for the world's best midfielder, they plan to spend the money 'on chocolate'. Top of the shopping list, according to Sir Alex Ferguson, will be Galaxy and Twirls. 'I just love the creamy luxury of Galaxy, but I wouldn't want to miss out on the tangy thrill of Twirl,' he told a packed Old Trafford press conference.

When challenged about the team's fortunes next year, Sir Alex replied, 'we need a new winger and a stronger defence, and lots of Toblerone, too. Or Walnut Whips'.

After disappointment in the Champions League final, Sir Alex added that 'when you lose in a final it's the worse feeling in the world. That's why we need Double Deckers and Mint Aeros. Ooh, and Wispas, if they're still available.'

The remaining big three teams were quick to respond. Both Liverpool and Arsenal will be digging deep for cakes and doughnuts. Chelsea, however, were focusing their attention on pies and pasties, with a pickled egg if there was any money left.

I love the likes of Neil Warnock, to me he is a breath of fresh air.........kisses nobodies ar$e.

The right decision should be a replay.

A similar thing happened a few years ago, I think it was Coventry City that were on the recieving end that time. Unfortunatly I don't think the FA or the football league can grant a replay for this sort of error. The only time I can remember the FA ordering a reply was after the Newcastle United against Nottingham Forest 6th round FA cup match in the 70s when the Newcastle fans invaded the pitch twice because Forest were winning 3-1 at the time. Newcastle went on to win 4-3 but a replay was ordered to be played at Goodison Park. This match was a 0-0 draw and a second replay, also at Goodison was needed which Newcastle won 1-0 with a goal scored by Malcolm Macdonald. Justice was eventually done in the final when Liverpool beat them 3-0. I don't normally bear grudges but this is football and I have always been pleased to see Newcastle lose since that day so you can imagine my pleasure at the end of last season.

You are right, I remember a match a couple of years ago I believe involving Arsenal. A player had been injured and the other side put the ball out of play so that he could receive attention! upon restarting the game instead of passing the ball back to the team who put it out, one of the Arsenal players who was new to this country kept the ball and went on to score.

This naturally went against the spirit of the game, and Arsenal who had won the game requested a rematch of which I believe was granted.

P.s I have just found the link.

Here here, I've met him a few times when he used to live round our way, he says it how it is, if you don't like the brutal truth don't listen to him.

Gary Johnson should have let Palace walk the ball into Bristols net, Plymouth did it with Yeovil a few seasons ago when Johnson was with Yeovil. Warnock was right that ref needs banning for a year.

At least blame the right person. It would have been the referees assistant that did not spot that the ball had crossed the line. The nature of the game and the way in which referees and assistants work would mean that as soon as the player took the shot the referees assistant should have been moving towards the corner flag whilst looking towards the goal so that he would be able to judge if the ball goes out of play. The referee would be looking towards the goal to see if the ball was going between the posts or missing the goal. The speed at which the incident happened would sugest to me that the assistant took his eye off the ball for a split second and missed the fact that the ball had only gone 6ft over the line and rebounded back into play.
Many clubs have made it almost impossible for this type of error to occur by using nets that are supported from behind the goal and held in place by pegs. However there have been some instances where a peg has come loose and the ball has passed under the net and not been spotted.

Did you see where the Ref was stood? He was in the 18 yard box.

That doesn't matter. It is the assistants responsibility to advise the referee if the ball has gone out of play. If the assistant has not seen the ball go out of play for any reason then when the referee asks him the question he (the referee) has to accept that decision.

I agree with the what you say but the ref couldn't miss that, he was the closest of all of them. This calls for the introduction of camera's if you ask me.

How would it work with cameras? Football is a fast moving game. In the time it takes for someone to review a situation the ball could already be in the net at the other end of the pitch. Just how far do you propose taking play back and how would you rewind the watch to allow for the time played after the incident?
In reality I think we just have to accept that occasionally mistakes will be made.

The referee may have been the nearest to the situation but that does not mean he had the best view or indeed was even looking in that direction. As I have already pointed out it is the assistants responsibility to indicate when the ball has gone out of play.
