The law states that a H/C should return to the closest possible rank at the end of each hiring and at all times when on duty but idle.

The law also states that when a H/C driver enters a designated rank he is obligated to take a fare from that rank and as such cannot accept a hiring other than from it.

They are not national laws, they are your byelaws.

Therefore although they may be in place in many of the councils in the UK, they are not in all of them.

Those are the facts Dusty, maybe you could recollect in more detail what you thought I had wrote.

Obviously since the relevant post was on TTFUK it's no more. However, your statement above is not really that inconsistent with what I said. You say:

"With regard your statement about asking the council for a surrendered/revoked saloon plate on a non-transferable basis, what bull$hit, what I actually enquired about was the reason that plate had NOT been re-issued to the person who was top of the councils waiting list. When I was told there was no longer a waiting list I asked for another to be started in order to re-allocate any plates returned to or revoked by the council and for the re-issuance to be on a non-transferable basis to stop anyone from profiteering from the plate itself, and of course I asked for my name to be included on the list."

How can what I said be bull$hit since it's not really that inconsistent with the second part of your statement about what really happened.

You asked for the saloon plates to be reissued, if there was no waiting list and you wanted one started, then you were bound to get the plate???

Did you know there was a job at No 10 for chief spin doctor now that Alistair Campbell had left? :)

BTW Mick, how come the plates went back to the council anyway??

Yes, it's on the homepage!!!

I’ve noted the Homepage update

The Cab companies as opposed to the Hackney plate holders requested the following attempted conditions.

These conditions included:
- pre-owned vehicles disallowed;
- attached to 24-hour fully staffed office and supplied to wheelchair bound on request;
- non-transferable for five years.

Plus there were others.

The drivers (inc existing owners) opposed these conditions vigorously.

Regards

Belt

(Looking forward to Updated Mk2)

I think you will find Mr Belt the hackney carriage drivers objected to the issue of plates full stop. The conditions attached to them just aided their objections.

No need for that, cos both the original and the follow up were correct in what they said. Please point out any inaccuracies.

But even if the original was un-true (which it is most certainly not), a clarification was issued within days.

I have never read any clarification coming from the nonsense printed in Cab Trade News.

Never, ever, never !!!!!!!

Yes Mr Belt, I don't know the Brighton trade intimately, but I assume that there is some overlap between the proprietorship of the cab offices and taxi plates and/or the offices speak on behalf of taxi plates??

To that extent you'll note that the article didn't say that all plateholders sought the conditions, thus the article is not innacurate.

The piece didn't claim that that was the view of all plateholders, since no one is able to ascertain the views of all plateholders, any more than you are able to know the views of all "drivers (inc existing owners)".

So would you like to clarify your claim??

The plate was revoked following a court case found the holder to be a neither fit or proper person to hold it.

The council still claim a signifigant un-met demand, even though they refuse to re-issue a plate.

I would have had no objections to them finding the last list and allocating the plate to the first person on the list.

We have a meeting on Monday with various council departments, to discuss the "problems" the trade encounter when attempting to provide the door to door transport needs of the people of Gateshead.

It'll feature elsewhere though, sorry chaps.

A letter was sent to the council around 3 years ago asking for a new issue of plates with these & other unfair (IMO) conditions attached.

This letter was signed exclusively by all of the Cab Company Proprietors.

I hope this clarifies the point I was apparently ham fistedly making.

"how did some one put it "imbeciles" i reckon a vote should be in order get rid of all the taxi forum sites!!!! that way the w*nkers can be left alone to do all the shifts that no one else wants as well as all the jobs no one wants such as the local p*ss heads or the shopper at tesco's with 3 trollies full of shopping, come on lads get rid of these taxi forums and our job itself will be a lot better and it will put the "imbeciles" back in charge where they think they are most important, dont give them a home on the net where they can hang out they are dangerous ( if any relatives of these type of people are reading this have them sectioned and do us all a favour!
