Please, please, please could someone give some sort of details on these recommendation.

I swear on Wharfy's life, that I will give a fair and balanced response on the recommendation, and if it makes sense, then I will be the first to say so.

But for goodness sake, lets see the bloody thing and debate it's pro's and con's, cos at the moment there has been plenty of talk about it, but no meat on the bones.

I wasn't sure that there was any meat to put on the bones - maybe the policy was that we needed a National Cab Act, and once that was agreed then the content would come later.

Well the bits I've heard about are the 'no charges for stations' and the 'managed growth' issues.

If that's it, then we don't need an Act, a bin will suffice.

A National Cab act, is supposed to be modern legislation for a modern era, although there is a lobby in Blackpool who want to retain the ancient act, and they are the bourogh that has half the nations natural manure on thier roads

What a thing to say about old Wharfy.

I read the t&gwu paper and its ok. But I dont think they have ever given all the info about a new act. But with all there different area comittees it must be hard to come to a consensus.

I would say impossible Pete.

But with most things union, it's the one driver with the biggest gob that sets local policy.

Whether that policy makes sense is irrelevant, as long as big gob gets his way.

Where I work the last thing the lads at the station want is 'free and open access'.
The lads with station passes would faint if others could buy them.

Any news on this act yet please?

Would it be worth contacting the T&G direct to ask them what their poposals are? They might be proud enough of it to share it with others. It's not as if anyone was going to plagiarise it, is it?

I think SM knows that there's no concrete National Cab Act proposal, and he's just having a slight dig

Several of us have asked for more concrete information on the NCA in the past on this forum and on others (to which one or two T&G officials contributed), but no more detail has been fothcoming.

I think the policy is that we need a 'National Cab Act', but there seems to be nothing in the way of content at this stage

I know someone highly placed in the T&G and from what he says they are definitely discussing this, though to what stage was not discussed.

There are mentions of the OFT report starting to appear in the London taxi trade press, but it seems that it has not become a big issue here yet. It may not, the London trade is usually quite parochial and what happens elsewhere does not seem to draw too much attention.

The thing is Crusin', the OFT report will effect the London cab trade as much as the rest of us. So I find it surprising that it hasn't really got the brain cells moving yet. Although in all fairness, I suspect this applies to the whole UK HC and PH trade.

Perhaps because London is quota free, cabbys feel it will have no effect in your manor. But I believe this report will cover just about everything in our trade, from quotas to turning circles, from tariff charges to drivers standards.

If I was a London cabby, my biggest fear would be the length of the knowledge. Especially if the lads from OFT read callsign magazine.
