I will have to spend £20K plus in the next six months or so.

Time for a new cab & I've decided that it will be a lwb Eurocab, but there are so many different ones out there, it is hard to choose.

The Cab Direct E7 is very nice, but then so is the price. Paton's latest offering looks great value for money, but I am being told that the special deal has now finished.

Then there's SVA, Voyager, Bernard Mansell, Jubilee etc, etc.

Is there a trade show anywhere soon in any part of the country that might have most of these models on show?

If there is anyone reading this that has first hand knowledge of Paton's vehicles or who drives any of these models and who could give me some guidance, I would appreciate it.

Have a look at the Nissan alternative, much nicer vehicle, 2 lads I know have them and they haven't had any issues with them yet.

IMO the vehicles themselves are all much the same, if not exactly the same.

I think the only difference is the quality of the conversion, and some are really s**t.

Clearly you will need to decide if you want air-con, underfloor ramp etc etc, as that pushes the price up.

The only taxi show is the Coventry one in May, so can you wait?

If not at the last one I went to I think the cheapest good one was the Scotscab. They had a very cheap basic model, and would simply just add on what you wanted and price accordingly.

As for Patons, they are as good or as bad as the rest of them, but they have an agent down here, Discovery I think, and they seem to be ok.

With them all being much of a muchness I think the thing to be looking for is the warranty cover given with the vehicle. I did find one of the Euro Cabs with a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty but I can't find it now, if I do I'll letl you know

Do not hold your breath on any "5 year warranty" from any company. They seem to be able to say anything in rip off Britain................and get away without complying.

The Merc makes sence as it will hold value better and make you feel better in yourself owning it for the prestige badge alone.

I am not knocking the post but do not forget...........if you buy a Merc! then you are going to pay big bucks for servicing and big bucks for parts when things start going wrong.

Cabs Direct will promise you the earth! but I am afraid they still behave like Del Boy, so if you do buy from them get everything in writing. Do not forget their disclaimer on their web site that basically everything that they advertise is not necessarily true...........and that is a fact.

Not if you go down the independent route  and only take it to a merc garage should you need any warranty work

The problem is that it's not Nissan through & through.

The engine is Renault & as previous so called purpose built cabs have been a concoction of different manufacturer's bits & pieces, I don't want to go down that way.

That's Cab Direct's E7 & it's a con.

5 year warranty yes, but each year the warranty parameters change.

When you ask them to detail what is covered in year one, two, three etc, you will get a shock.

It's not what you would expect from a '5 year warranty'.

I was referring more to parts which would be more expensive in order to comply with the warranty, and more often than not even if you take it to an independent they still charge that little bit more.

No air-con as I have never understood a grand extra for one and a quarter day's comfort a year in this country. And the E7, comes with air con standard in all models, but only in the driver's compartment.

And no underfloor ramp as it increases the passenger floor height by two inches & creates more access difficulty for the non-wheelchair disabled.

I thought that there was a cab show in the Liverpool area around September each year?

There was but last years was cancelled due to lack of interest (I think) not sure about this year. If there is one it'll be on the Echo Arena site, look there
