In some area yes, they are trying to get them in round here but the Council won't move on the issue, they say rear loaders are dangerous to which I agree. |

Not in Carlisle, the vehicle fails to meet the criteria. As well as all that.....putting a wheelchair passenger in the crumple zone of a vehicle is a tad stupid IMO. Kim Tserkezie, who played Penny Pocket in the hit BBC show Balamory, was thrown from her wheelchair when the taxi she was travelling in slammed on its breaks to avoid hitting another car. The 31-year-old was left in agony badly injured on the floor of the taxi. Amazingly, her 10-year-old son Jay, who was travelling with her, escaped unscathed. Kim, from Heaton, Newcastle, was diagnosed with a muscle deterioration illness in her legs as a toddler. She became a household name after playing bubbly shop girl Penny Pocket on the Bafta award-winning show. She was taken to Newcastle General Hospital by ambulance following the accident on New Year's Day and is now recovering at home, where she is cared for by her mother, Pat. Badly cut and bruised, Kim said: "I'm so thankful to be alive. If we had hit the car in front of us I probably would have gone through the windscreen and it would have been a lot worse. "Because of the way I was clamped in and the taxi was built, I was flung out of the chair and went full force down on to my knees. "I have never felt pain like it and I've been through childbirth and had spinal surgery. This was worse than both of them. It was excruciating." The near-crash happened outside the Corner House pub in Heaton, just minutes away from her home, at around 7pm. She was travelling home from her mum's house with Jay when the taxi braked, causing her to fall on to the bare hard floor. She added: "Jay was really calm and kept saying `Mum are you all right'. He was really brave about it all. I'm glad it was me that was hurt and not him," said Kim. "When we got to the hospital I had to be X-rayed and was told I had pulled all the ligaments in my legs. I also had internal bleeding in my knees which is causing swelling and more pain. "The doctors have been coming out to see me and have told me it will be very painful for two weeks. I'm not someone who usually takes any medication, but I was asking for everything he had. "The pain is all over my body and I'm covered in bruises from head to toe. I've been told the pain relief would have been better if I'd broken both my legs, rather than pulling the ligaments. "It's not the drivers' faults but a lot of the taxi's just aren't suitable. OK at present, but our LO has a adversity to them. So I expect when the review process discusses rear loading WAVs, he'll push (no pun intended) to exclude them from the approved vehicle list. |

Probably because like the rest of them he's a bleeding busybody! Again like the tinted windows how can a vehicle that has passed all conditions through the manafacturing procedure does some wannabe bizzie decide no i'm sorry but that's not safe.?????????????? |

(I don't have any WAVs) When you open the rear doors you can (and usually do) obscure your rear lights (including Hazards). You, and your wheelchair passenger also obscure the rear of the vehicle. Any car, lorry, van, bus, taxi or cyclist is going to hit you and cause you and your passenger a very bad day. IMHO not only should they banned across the board for use as Taxis, they should be banned for use as private cars including when provided under the mobility schemes. |

What conditions has the doblo and suchlike actually passed....and not the made up ones that some companies tend to refer to. How can changing the structure of the vehicle be safe? As Chris states......how on earth can the driver and passenger be safe loading from the road? CC |

The crumple zone will stil be there, if it was a non_WAV, so thats bull (im sure even Fiat check this out before building the vehicles) 2. The case above looks like she wasnt strapped in properly, is that the Doblos fault? |

Sorry I presumed you would have known. Alterations are made to the floorpan of the vehicle in some conversions, thus my point. CC |
