Quote: Problem with these company guys is they've forgotten how to be cabbies.
This caught my attention elsewhere and is maybe fair, maybe not, I have no opinion on that but, the question begs, in todays world, what is a cabbie or perhaps more importantly, what makes a good cabbie? |

A sound driver, who drives a sound car, with good local knowledge, who respects his punters and doesn't rip them off. |

CC Rightly or wrongly, that's what I'm trying to explore and thanks to the other posters also because one (if only one I can think of immediately) attribute which IMO is vitally important is personality. Quote: A sound driver Expand?Quote: who drives a sound car Reliable, clean, looks good.......?Quote: with good local knowledge Has technology reduced this necessity at all?Quote: who respects his punters Define respect?Quote: and doesn't rip them off. How is this done (usually)?

Quote: Reliable, clean, looks good.......? Comfortable and spacious Quote: Has technology reduced this necessity at all? No, not at all. If the technology fails you still need to know where you're going and how to get there Quote: How is this done (usually)?
Going the long way around or simply over charging |

If the technology fails you still need to know where you're going and how to get there Therefore, as a booking company which provides the dispatchers to the cars, we have perhaps misspent by including a "Sat Nav" module in our new system? http://www.mtdata.com.au/default.asp?pa ... ch_SystemsQuote: or simply over charging How? By dodgy quotes, not running meters, how?

Quote: So bigger is better? Bigger what is better? Its an air of spaciousness and comfort is a must. Quote: Therefore, as a booking company which provides the dispatchers to the cars, we have perhaps misspent by including a "Sat Nav" module in our new system? It's there to assist a driver it should not replace a drivers knowledge or need to know. Apart from which why would a company want to 'employ' somebody who couldn't even be bothered to learn where they are driving Quote: How? By dodgy quotes, not running meters, how?
Some would be over charging by quoting when going out of the area, we have that particular problem with the Liverpool taxis travelling 2 miles through a tunnel and charging £30. Not sure with the meter situation you'd have to ask somebody that uses a meter
