Dear Colleague,
My name is Alan and I am a hackney driver based in Hampshire.
In November of 2007 I bought the new model Peugeot E7 from Cab Direct of Glasgow.

Since that time I have suffered unacceptable losses due to very poor domestic quality parts ranging from many clutch and flywheel replacements to a completely blown engine and items that you would not expect to break down so quickly after replacement on a vehicle supplied for very heavy daily use as a taxi.

It is now apparent that there are many other E7 owners with exactly the same problems as myself and frustrated with the service received from the suppliers, they feel that alone they can achieve nothing to recompense them for their losses. This is absolutely correct and alone you will achieve very little.

Due to the appalling build quality of this vehicle which requires extremely expensive maintenance at an unacceptable frequency, I am now in contact with Trading standards who are advising that there is a possibility that I can claim that this vehicle is NOT FIT FOR THE PURPOSE THAT IS WAS SOLD FOR. But in order to make this happen (not only via consumer direct but maybe taking other direct action as a group via the national and motoring media) there needs to be literally hundreds of other disgruntled E7 owners with similar complaints as myself.

With an unbelievable service history spanning the past 31 months, some quite worrying safety issues and a completely negative response from Allied vehicles and Peugeot, I am not prepared for this situation to continue.

It's as he says a common problem. They look good but they aren't fit for the purpose for any length of time. Things usually start going wrong just after it comes out of it's warranty, but, some have suffered before that

These things will never be good as Taxis. One thing that makes me squirm is the sliding door.

There is one in our area. The driver swears that it is a good vehicle but It seems to spend a lot of time in the garage and a few months ago it was off the road for weeks having a new engine fitted. We carried a group of passengers a couple of weeks ago who had been in it earlier in the day and they said that the sliding door was coming open when the car went around corners.

The newer ones are better than the older type.

IMO, the problem with these conversions, & I have the Renault Trafic, is the service intervals.

I don't know what Peugeot recommend as their service interval, but Renault recommend as follows;

Oil & filter at 18,000 miles & again at 36,000 & only when you get to 54,000 miles do they recommend that you then change oil & filter again & air & fuel filter.

And that to me is a load of bowlloxxxxxxxxxxxxx!!!

Instead I am doing oil & filter at 9,000, then oil & filter & air & fuel filter & 18,000 miles & repeat the cycle over & over again.

If they think I'm going to wait 54,000 miles before I change air & fuel filter, then they must think I've come off a Banana Boat!!

And it's these long service intervals that IMO cause a build up of trouble, that eventually explodes.

The newer Peugeots are better than the older ones.

When you go round a corner both doors open.

Apparently, the next Peugeot Mark III Taxi is being engineered so that when you go round a corner, not only do both rear doors open, but the tailgate too!!
