Picked up a single mother at a local supermarket today, when we arrived at her house she opened the back gate. You couldn't see an inch of the back garden it was covered in old beds, mattresses, scraped bikes old toys and general crap.

I said "I'll just put this shopping by the back gate coz you'll know how to pick your way to the back door through that lot" trying to make a joke of it

"Yeah ok", she replied "I'm just waiting for the council to come and clear this lot up but they are taking their f'ing time about it"

So I asked her why she couldn't do it

Her answerer "It's the councils f'ing garden they can clear the f'ing crap out of it"

So I said " Um..... but it started out as your rubbish"

"Now it's in their f'ing garden it aint mine any f'ing more is it mate?"

I just shook my head and went back to the car.

I still can't understand her logic and why in the name of all things holy do the council have to clear her garden up?

:? :?

I guess that her logic could be that she only wanted a flat but there was only a house with a garden available so she took it. But in her mind she is only renting the house and not the garden because she didn't want a garden.

Mmmm..... I don't agree with this at all, but, if the council don't explain things properly, nor put it in the tenancy agreement, it's hardly suprising that some tenants have this attitude

Well some people have no shame and by all accounts don't need to. They also don't need to face the consequences of their actions either, that's for the state to do and the tax payer to pay for.

Not that many years ago you had to be of good repute and usually working in the area to qualify for a council house..they gave them to decent folk who looked after them and their gardens.

Now even though council houses are as scarce as hens teeth they give them to the assholes that dont look after them and who think the world owes them a living....its all wrong...so bloody wrong!!!

When was this then? Because as far back as I can remember there have always been some "bad" familys in council houses. I was brought up on a council estate and although most familys were OK there were some who you did not want to be associated with and when they got too bad there was a small row of houses that were in the middle of nowhere and that is where they were put.

that small row is now where the GOOD tenants are, the rest of the estate is now chavs, hoodies, druggies, pikeys and assorted yobs, and guess who pays thier dole and rent....

the council tenancy agreements include the bit about tenants keeping all gardens in good order, she signed it, shes liable, lets hops she got the bill - unless it was like when she moved in

when "welfare housing" first came about (late 40s/early 50s) people took a pride in them, they were a huge step up from the old tenement slums....
