Import Pakistani drivers from Birmingham, Derby and Dewsbury give them a badge and sat nav and send them on their way. That's what they've done on our firm and basically the phones have stopped ringing. Every other firm in the district "will not" take them on because the people round here like English speaking drivers. Over the last month our phones have gotten quieter and quieter. These drivers have been shipped in from the above and have been to the Council with their wives acting as an interpreter because the drivers can't speak English. Over this last week they have lost us a major amount of work with not being able to find an address due to working with Sat Navs, over charging, reckless driving which was reported by another road user because one Pakistani driver nearly drove her off the road. She was told by the office staff to phone the licensing officer at the Council with the cars registration and plate number, will anything be done?? Nah they'll play the race card and say to the Council "your being racist. This is not the end of it either, there's 2 more starting next week and one of them has a beard that reaches to his trouser line, one of the women in the office said he's a dead ringer for Bin Laden, (he's going to have some fun on a Friday night) When the guy who's running the show told one office staff that several more Pakistani's were starting she said "good it will make my job easier" he looked at her gone out and said "how's that then"? She said "for every Pakistani you set on these phones ring 10 times less each day" she said "I can sit here doing nothing all day taking the odd phone call and dragging my wage at the end of the week for doing next to nothing. His face was a picture. The English drivers are getting that p1ssed off that many are on about leaving, one handed his gear in last night. There is something that makes me smile out of all this, when you are on the rank and a Pakistani is in front of you a white person will walk past the Pakistan's car and get into a white drivers car, one said to me last night in very broken English, "why she no get in my car I was first in que"? The woman gladly told him she wanted an English speaking driver who knew where he was going and who didn't smell. Now that made my night that much I let her off with the fare.

That is the only way to deal with an operator company regardless of the reasons. If you are unhappy go else where, simples. They'll get the message eventually, but, by then it's usually too late

Customer's choice & the passenger had a variety of good reasons why she did not wish to travel with the first turn driver; his personal hygiene being one, a tendency towards mystery tours for passengers being another & finally (and this is only a guess & is the passenger's fault) the passenger was bereft of any Urdu language skills!!! And they say drivers need language for Olympics 2012; what about passengers learning Urdu, FFS!!! |

And giving them a satnav is useless in most cases, as I witnessed myself at Brum International Airport a few days ago. Passenger approaches first turn with a piece of A4 paper. First turn cabbie looks at paper & calls out to third turn cabbie in a langauge that I do not understand. Third turn cabbie comes to first turn cab. First turn cabbie disconnects satnav from mounting in his cab & hands it to third turn cabbie. Third turn cabbie looks at passenger's address on piece of A4 paper & inputs the post code into first turn's satnav. First turn re-mounts the satnav into his cab, opens cab door, loads passengers & drives off. Taxi driving UK 2010, FFS!!! |

Why I'll always fight to keep our London Knowledge standard in place. They don't ever get through the 3 year process unless they can speak in English and know exactly where they are going. |

I think we need not to tar everyone with the same brush. Who is at fault? The greedy owner who's only concern is getting more and more radio rent money? The licensing authority who's standards are so weak that people unable to converse with the average punter is getting a license? Or the drivers who just want to make a living?

I think there is one ommitted from this list and imo it is the trade as a whole for sitting back and letting it happen. I think there are a lot of us happy to say what we think but not so happy to put ourselves out to ensure things change, of course there are the odd exception to this but the odd exception is not enough.
