Hi Guys,

Those who work in Leeds and drive or own a TX2/4 or old version of the Peugeot E7 will recognise that our city currently restricts vehicles when they reach their 5th year from being fortunate to get an advert/wrap paying them a tidy sum.

However, all is not lost because the association that I represent has recently put the issue forward to the council after many years of blank faces and it has recieved very favourable reviews from the Head of Licensing and the Manager of our licensing department.

The policy is being reviewed as we speak, but may take some time to come through the red tape. However, considering it was introduced in the first place by our own trade 8 years ago is a complete mystery. Why our so called representative 8 years ago would agree to a restriction is completely non coherent.

Having contacted three of the main Taxi advertisers, it has become apparently clear that as usual, Leeds is the most non conformative council in the UK, and funnily enough including Scotland.

Thankfully, the one item that has gone in our fanour was that we used the issue of the Equality act which on the 1st of October this year will favour the Taxi trade very much in any issue where discrimination has been present up to press. From that point on anyone can challenge any issue and the council have to prove that their reasons were 'NOT' discriminatory to that person applying.

So maybe the happy days may return for those who run vehicles in excess of 5 years where they will finally get the adverts they so desperately want and need to assist in the running costs at this point where work is hard for everyone.

If any one has a comment to make or feel they could add to our comments then please do so. We are keen to hear what the trade in other cities has done or has the good favour of with regard to vehicle adverts on TX2/4 and or E7 etc.

Best regards
