Justice for the 96. It has only taken 27 years...........repeat the same lies for 27 years and the truth sounds strange to people!

I try to keep a float of about 20 pounds but for some reason every morning when i get up it has shrunk never been able to figure out why

I go with £20 notes and £10 in silver. It all depends on how well I did the day before. Sometimes some of it ends up in the tank. It amazes me how little silver I have some days. Must be due to more folk looking for their change.

EDIT: Just noticed I missed £20 in pound coins (if I've got them), some days it's as low as £5

As for small change, you need some students. They never pay in anything else.

Been thinking for a while my float is too big.

I always carry

£50 in £5
£20 in £1
£5 in 50p
£2 in 20s
£1 in 10s

I recall a day on our station rank, early doors when a guy gets in one of the cabs and asked for a fare to about 20 miles away....Jackpot!

Problem was the driver was totally skint and ask for the fare upfront so he could get some diesel on the way, Guy refused and went in the next cab

Another time, a driver got a job to the local uni, from what seemed like a posh bird, when he got there (2 mins away) and a flat £2.80 fare the lady got out a £50 note, when the driver said he couldnt change it she simply said tuff [edited by admin], and walked away. The driver had to come back and join the end of the queue

Ever since I have always started the day with a min of £20 in the tank and a float as above.

Some of the drivers here still have a plastic cup filled with 1p and 2p coins and if a fare is say £4.60 and the punter gives them a fiver, they start counting out the copper so that the punter says "keep the change". An old trick that still works.

Between £20 and £25 in £ coins and silver. So long as I can change a £20 I'm happy. If I have no change or very little cos it's been all notes I always tell the punter I'm low on change when they get in to give them chance to get some on the way
