At Brum Airport he wouldn't get past the corral that feeds the main rank!!

He'd be sent straight home & told not to come back until properly attired.

The driver at York has a choice; abide by the dress code, or work somewhere else.

No wonder the trade has a crap reputation when drivers arrive for work in navvy clothes, middle & far east pyjamas, 'Tommy Cooper' fezes, jumble sale clothes & FKWE!!

If you want the public & your customers to respect you, respect yourself first!!!

And that starts with proper trousers with a pressed cress, a tailored pressed shirt with a collar & black or brown shoes with dark socks.

A taxi or PH journey is a special way to travel & more costly than a bus, tram or train, so dressing accordingly so that the customer experience is special for them is right in my book!

Otherwise, go ply for hire in a refuse collection lorry!!

And that starts with proper trousers with a pressed cress, a tailored pressed shirt with a collar & black or brown shoes with dark socks.

A taxi or PH journey is a special way to travel & more costly than a bus, tram or train, so dressing accordingly so that the customer experience is special for them is right in my book!

If the dress code forms part of the contract to get a permit then failing to adhere to the terms of the contract would put the driver in breach of that contract and the contract can be terminated.

Get a grip. It's a lift from A to B for a few quid more than the bus.

Clean and tidy is sufficent for this job.
You want uniformed drivers with (or without) the bowing and scraping, hire a limo and pay full whack for it.

I believe your correct, perhaps the driver concerned is finding himself part of any disciplinary procedure in place as part of the contract? CC

I had a cab the other day from home to take the wife for an appointment. We don't live in the area that I am licensed in & the destination had no parking within the area, hence the cab. The bag of sht that turned up was a disgrace & so was the cab / car. If we hadn't have been in a hurry I would have fcked the driver off!! Crap all over the floor in the back & a one litre half-drunk bottle of water in the front footwell, which I stepped on as I got in, slipped in the process, banged my knee against the dahboard & the sport-top on the bottle blasted open as I got in, showering the dashboard with water. All the way to the destination I b*llocked the driver & told him he & his car were a disgrace & that I had severely banged my knee for no good reason other than his negligence. On arrival I gave him the fare & told him why he was not getting a tip. Until the cab trade gets it's house in order, we deserve what we get spewed at us!! This is the 21st century; 1950's standards won't do any more!!!

Brummie Cabbie, did you take his driver Number or Cab/PH number? Did you complain to his circuit? Did you complain to his LA? If you answer "No" to any or all of the above, have you done anything to improve the situation - NO. Whilst I appreciate you putting us on TDO in the Rembrandt, it doesn't actually achieve much. When I get a punter who moans about other Hacks or PH I ask them the same questions - never had one who has actually complained. Hopefully they will complain in the future. (Not about me I hasten to add).

Sorry to buck the trend of this thread, but I have to agree with Brummie. I have been with a firm 12 months now where i am required to wear a shirt and tie. The result has been an unbelievable, better tips, compliments from passengers on a daily basis. The result, in this recession I have had my best year in the last 30. Although it has been mostly credit work (more tax). I always thought a dress code was bo**ox for a cab driver, but if I had known what a difference it made to the attitude of the punters I would have done it years ago.
