Please answer the following; 1) As a Taxi driver or PHV with a meter on board, have you ever forgotten to engage the Meter, once, twice or more than this. 2) Do you feel it would be better to never forget to engage the meter? 3) On the occasions you have forgotten to engage the meter have you encountered problems with customers? I'm looking for a short answer on yes or no on number 1 and 2 and a few comments on what sort of problems on number 3. Regards CC |

1, Yes and still do 2, Obviously 3, Never in 22 years, I usually apologise and ask what the drivers normally charge.....if they arent regulars I tell them what the fare would be and maybe knock a quid off. CC |

1. Yes many times. 2. Of course. 3. Nope never. I drive a hack, and rank at the local train station so always on the meter. I do recall one time when a hack forgot and was pulled and got a big fine for forgetting, even though it was a genuine case and supported by the customer. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKhi4BfDNZE CC you failed your own questions... You said "yes or no on number 1 and 2" For 1 you said "Yes and still do" Failed to answer correctly.
For 2 you said "Obviously" Neither a yes or a no - Failed again.
For 3 you asked for " a few comments on what sort of problems on number 3. As you have had no problems, by your own request your answer should have been "No", but you failed again by expanding your answer to "Never in 22 years, I usually apologise and ask what the drivers normally charge.....if they arent regulars I tell them what the fare would be and maybe knock a quid off." Guess what - another FAIL.
When instructing in the Royal Navy I always got the kids to RTFQ - Read The "Flaming" Question - then to ATFQ - I hope that one is self explanatory.

1. Can't answer within question/answer parameters. I would answer "Yes" but would need to expand to "more than this" but only yes is allowed. 2. Yes. 3. Yes, once. The passenger felt as it was my error, he should not be required to pay. I regarded this as a problem for several seconds then decided I had cocked up and life is too short to worry about a relatively small amount of money, so I acceded. The passenger was so impressed with my largesse, he gave me a tip which amounted to approximately 200% of what the fare would have been. PS - you would not believe how careful I have been with the spelling and punctuation on this post.

Is this a cabbie's version of QI with the Captain playing the part of Stephen Fry? What's with the inquisition? |

1) yes 2)yes 3)no. being a relatively small town many drivers don't engage the meter, safe in the knowledge that the regular/known customer will pay what he always pays, usually on or above the metered fare. A few strangers (to the driver) will "try it on", but in the main there's no problem(s). BTW I always go low if I forget to put the meter on, saves any arguments. |

1 yes 2 yes 3 I tell them how much the fare would be aproximately and most just pay that. The odd as*hole won't pay any more than the flag. Occupational hazzard, like a runner. Get over it and move on to the next hire.

1) Yes. 2) Yes. 3) No. Ask them what they usually pay, and if you think they are mugging you, then that's tough. |
