This forum is brilliant and there is certain posters who are not afraid to let the thousands of members know who they are. If for the first time on posting on tdo would you still make it possible for people to identify you. After the recent meeting i had with the cabs officer i would recommend no, but there is more than one way to skin a cat

If for the first time on posting on tdo would you still make it possible for people to identify you. My view is that it's the content of a post not the author that matters. However if folks want to post as their true ID then all well and good. As for council officers using info on here for iffy reasons, then sometimes if you have some info, that you wish to share, then create a new user and post under a different name.

my name appears under each post, in my sig. Coupled with my location, and the info I post about he Company I work with, it wouldn't take the occupants of The Mystery Machine too long to unmask me.

I have no issue with anyone using pseudonyms or aliases; IMO it should be encouraged. But I do have a strong opinion on posters not giving their locations, even if it is in code as I have done, or Mr Sussex, which is a good example. At least that way others can see roughly where you are from, the approximate LA you are licensed in & that affects how people view the contributor's posts. The number of times I have not realised that a post is in relationship to Scotland, which has different legislation, is legendary. |

Quite a lot of forums insist on your real name being included in your signature and lock you out if you don't comply however the question we should ask is is it the right way forward for TDO to do so and inhibit posters as most people will be far more careful when criticising LO's etc if those posts were more easily traced and that is part of the fun of a forum |
