does anyone know anything about the new Euro taxi sign top light, which shows up which tariff you are operating on when you engage your meter, i have heard, due to too many York Station drivers who work out of York Stn who are running on tariff 2 during the day, and the Council are trying to stop it, and are considering to bring in this new top light its something like a green indication light pops with the tariff number you have got engaged up on your top light telling the public or even other drivers, anyone know about them, and whats the cost |

That could seriously upset some drivers. But mostly round here they don't even turn the meter on. |

You can have whatever type of topsign or meter you like. It will mean nothing if the drivers don't use the meter in the first place. |

The punters round here are simply told that the fares are fixed by the office and that they are always cheaper that the fare would be on the meter. And the idiots believe this. The fare after 11.00 pm is £3.00 for the first 1/2 mile and these drivers are charging as much as £5.00 for a journey of 1/2 mile. Please note that These are hackney carriages and as far as I am aware I am in the 21st century. |

Ah but in a district like ours where fares are deregulated and there are several tarriff sheets in operation some taxis could legitimately be on tarriff 2 and its quite normal for 6 or 8 seater bookings to run at tarriff 2 or 3 for those bookings if they haven't been quoted so it could cause confusion round here ! |

How do you figure that it is "our own fault?" In the case of my town it is an enforcement issue. Nothing to do with me. I and others have reported the overcharging/not using meter issue many times. In the case of Edders, the council do not set fares. Every company sets their own fares as required by the council. Now in that situation it would be against competition laws to all set the same fares. |

Edders, How the hell are your fares deregulated, If the council licence you they must issue the tariff sheet with the councils tariff, and all meters must be set to that, then drivers are free to charge anything less than the councils maximum If the council dont do this they are breaking the law |
