A cab driver in Split has kicked a local politician in the leg, after he voted for lower taxi prices and increases in concessions.

During a cab driver protest in front of the city administration building early this morning (Thu), one of the angered demonstrators lashed out at the councillor Luka Podrug from Croatian Pure Party of Rights (HCSP)

"If he feels he has the right to do something like this in the middle of the day in front of a crowd of people, what could he do to me in the dark?," said Podrug.

"Who drives us and our children at night? We should question their concessions because who knows how many amongst them are crazy, psychological patients and are prone to violence," he added.

Podrug decided not to report the attack to the police, but he is expecting an apology from the president of the taxi drivers association.

Even before the attack, the politician was exposed to an avalanche of insults for his decision, obviously unpopular to the cab drivers in Split.

"I would vote again for the same decision. A taxi in Split is still too expensive," said Podrug.
