Iwas approached this (sunday) morning by a punter who wanted to go to Blackburn, a 250 mile round trip.

My best price? £200. His best offer? £140.

I didn't go for that, not worth it. (56 pence a mile? no thanks)

How low would you go to get a similar job?

£180 was my best offer.

250 miles at 70mph, say 4 hours, plus one for the pot, 5 hour round trip.

£50 of fuel and 5 x £30 an hour = £200.

This is Lincolnshire. No motorways.

He only wanted to pay £140. £50 fuel and 6 x £15 per hour = £140.

I never criticise anyone for going miles at a cheap rate, so if folks think they can make more on a long run than they would have around the town, then good luck to them.

That will do me. I did a job to Waterlooville a few years ago, 200 miles @ £1 a mile.

It would've done for me too, but he only wanted to pay £140, not £200, at the risk of repeating myself. Again.

Which is why I didn't go.

I did better without leaving the County.

Well not sure anyone would ask for less than he offered :D

I would have used my years and years of experience and attempted to get £180ish off him, then realised that were in a recesion and he was only going to pay £140 and took him.

Wheels turning money earning.....

It would cut your chances of repeat work from the passenger, I would venture!
