My meter (when a hack) had a little "clock" button and would charge for any holdups/traffic lights/jams/etc and from when pushed to journey end inc any waiting at pickup/etc

As far as I know its quite legal, but it is morally right? OK some jobs are taking 3 or 4 times longer, drivers are losing money at the normal rate and PH companies are struggling to get drivers to get into their cars. Equally OAPs and others who are regular customers should expect to pay the same to go on their shopping trip tomorrow as they did last week. |

If I was a punter and the buses stopped because of the snow, and no-one in the family, or any friends could come and pick me up, I would pay whatever I needed to to get home. Not saying it's right, but if those drivers are out in sh** weather risking their motors, then they have a right to be paid in excess of the normal rate. |

I said that mine doesn't. meaning that mine doesn't charge the same ammount if there is a detour or waiting in traffic. |

But the thought of being stuck in a snow drift somewhere on the M23 put me off. |

I'm sure we can charge a higher rate in bad snow (maybe even double?)... and in my opinion, rightly so! I won't be working if it gets much worse, but as far as I'm concerned the lads that stick it out deserve every penny they make... As long as customers are aware of the extra charge at the start of the journey. Personally - as a young driver - my insurance is costly enough without taking any sort of risk in the snow, so my car will be locked up for a week if it gets much worse. |
