I presume everyone on here will have this problem to some degree or another:

Over many years, our OAPs and disabled have been issued with National Travel Tokens by the borough, which we can then redeem at the borough.

A couple of years ago, we shifted to borough specific tokens, but issued and redeemed in the same way, more or less.

Now, the county are taking over the scheme, possibly through government mandate, and all redemption claims must be by post (our cost!) which will be paid by BACS. County HQ is about 30 miles away.

I can't see many of our lads continuing to accept these. Anyone else experiencing similar?

We used to take them round here some years ago but they were open to abuse by the customers and their children. Many times you'd get sent for a token job only to find out you were picking up the OAP's children and grandchildren. When the Council got whiff they stopped the lot.

City of Lincoln Council have just scrapped the travel token scheme.

Not sure how much longer the free bus passes will last under their present form.

The central govt. funding for the bus pass scheme isbeing transferred to County Council level.

Can they afford to keep it going?

Punters in Lincoln had the choice between a bus pass or £22 in tokens.

Sooner that's gone the better.

Yer fechin lucky to get offered Tokens..the OAPs and Disabled up here get Volunteers to take them everywhere they want to go...infact if they Dont look left and right whilst crossing the road they may well get run over by some half baked charity wheeler driver.

Its a bloody pandemic of Voluntaritis detritis thats killing off the trade.

we used to buy the tokens off the OAPs - most had thier own cars (quite a few on mobility) £20 for £40 worth of tokens, nice earner!
