... to convince that a fare increase is overdue.

Is it.

A) The Council

B) The Public

C) Taxi proprietors

Answers on a used £20 note to me.

In my view the easiest are the public, next easiest down here is the trade, then the council.

Maybe there should be a forth, and that's the local press, who often upset everyone with a negative article.

Probably depends on the size of the market but in Edinburgh i would say the TRADE it'self.

We live in a discount world and the reason a party tariff is not in place is because radio companies fear losing ground to other Taxi companies who discount heavily phc etc

I couldn't write my reply on a used £20 note as you still have to spend it  so i put the £20 under your matress when you where at work today

I think here it has to be the council, closely followed by the trade. The public appear to be expecting it and are quite accepting of the fact that fares are going up on the ph circuits as they have already gone up on the taxis.

ps jimbo, I owe you a used £20 note but don't hold your breath

And thats the problem, Big Business can make huge overall profit through selling millions of small profit runs.

Sadly Small Business tends to make no Profits from small profit runs...with that in mind its in the vested interests of the Big boy to resist increases as they know full well its going to starve out the thousands of smaller operators which in turn make the Big guy even bigger still.

Its A shi*tty world we live in...

Yes it's deffo other owners. But why?

I've lost count of the battles I have had over the past 25 years to increase fares. The same old faces turning ashen faced at a 5% increase.

"You'll kill it!"

But they all charge it when it's finally introduced.

Probably because if theres a downturn in trade they can be the ones that can shout we told you so.

Most LA's are okay once its explained to them the fare is a maximum and drivers can charge below it if they wish.

Thought you were against fare discounting?

I am, but the prescribed fare is a maximum.

So you're saying to councils, it's OK increasing fares because the drivers can discount, but I don't think discounting is a good idea?

I'm saying that drivers can discount and that the fare set by a local authority is a maximum.

Whether I'm for it or against it doesn't matter......drivers can do it.

So you're underlining that drivers can do it, but you don't like it.
