In particular, the fares league table.

How accurate are they? After all, some councils set great store by them.

Lincolns tariff, it states, is Rate one £1:56 mile Rate two £1:99

The ACTUAL Rate one is £1:43 Rate two is £1:83

I know this because I set them in 2008.

And my meter tells me so as well.

Anyone else out there who would question the accuracy of PHM(+taxi)?

I dont want to dispute the accuracy of the fares, I once contacted PHM to tell them the fare they put in their chart was inaccurate for Carlisle, they argued but did alter the figures the next month.

That being said, what I dislike about the league tables is the fact someone has got to be top, or bidding for top position.

Councillors dont like being top......this works against the trade and arguably keeps fares down.

Those are thoughts btw......because I know the people involved go to a lot of effort to present this information.

To be fair to PHM I'd be very surprised if there weren't mistakes in them, because it's a 'fare' old task compiling that kind of thing.

They're a bit on the crude side, though, because in some LAs drivers can make a lot on extras, whereas in others they don't get much at all, and there are lots of other variables that can't be encompassed in the figures.

And the whole ethos of league tables undermines the idea of local fare-setting anyway.

The a*se 'ole about the League Tables is that they are calculated on a two mile fare, day & night!!

Why not a 3.3 or 3.7 mile fare?

That would be much more realistic!

FFS!!

How about basing a section of the league on how far you would get for a tenner? (5 1/4 miles here)

Roughly 5 miles at T1 and 3+1/4 at T2 for a tenner here.

This thread seems to have got a bit twisted.

Five mile rates are shown in PHTM.

So CC, I presume that £11.10 is for five miles?

The later question was asked by Jimbo "how far would you get for a tenner?".

I have not included "waiting time" in the answers below.

In Plymouth, five miles is £9.10 as stated in PHTM.

A Tenner will carry you 5 miles, 293 yards and one foot. If you prefer, that is 5 and 1/6 miles.

At night the running mile remains the same but an extra charge of 50p is automatically added to the flagfall.
