Just had my renewal quote through from my existing insurance broker and I have never heard of the company that they have recommended. Anyone heard of Markerstudy, or indeed insured with them? The renewal quoted by Tradex was a joke..... £1,276. It's just me driving my cab, 7 years no claims, TX1. The other company are charging £799 and will protect my NCB. Excess is £400 and glass £80. Sounds almost too good to be true. Any advice would be appreciated. BTW, based in Edinburgh.

Before they went bust last year, Quinn were keeping competitors prices down, once they went it everyone else jacked prices up

my Quinn insurance (mondeo/2 years NCB/1 driver) was £1020, the renewal was £1500  - with THREE years, "instalments" added £250

i eventually found cover for £1300 (inc PL) with the insurance shop (LV Policy) split in 3 monthly portions, no admin fee

My renewal two years ago was with markerstudy. No problems. (But no claims from my side, so not much use if you have a bump

Think that I might have found the answer to my own question. It would have been a little more reassuring if there had at least been one positive review.

It does not make comfortable reading.....I fear though that all TAXI/PH insurers now have us by the short and curlys, why I dont know, Im sure we are more likely to be wanting to keep our vehicles on the road than in a body shop as theres no money to be made from a Taxi in there...that and the fact we pay higher excess and often pay even more than that to avoid a claim....I reckon we are probably a safer insurance bet than Joe Average in his ford focus..

dont forget you insurance is with the underwriters, not a broker, keep proof of payment, demand your policy+certificate, and check direct with the insurance company thats all is well

check here to see you are covered

I am new to this forum and as I have mentioned in another topic, I have been an insurance broker for 20+ years and am now also a licensed PH driver albeit working part time in the trade. I will not advertise nor will I name the company I work for.

Markerstudy Insurance is headed up by the very charasmatic Kevin Spencer. They are a dynamic company and not long ago bought Zenith/Link Insurance who many will know of. They also own the Insurance Factory.

Motor insurance premiums generally are rocketing and the reasons for this are well covered in the media. Not sure whether I have a particularly long memory but the premiums we are seeing now are not too dissimilar to those around in 2001/2002. Taxi premiums especially dropped until about mid 2009. Things started to change when HSBC Insurance found they had big holes in their accounts and ultimately shut up shop. I could go on but won't at the moment.

Markerstudy are fine. Sometimes any insurance company and broker can slip up on service levels. The real measure I guess is how problems are rectified. I recall Norwwich Union "lost" a taxi that had been brought in after a nasty smash!

I had a policy with Markerstudy a couple of years ago, I never had any cause to contact them though.

Last year I had a policy with QBE for £780.

Today I've just had a quote of £895 from Sutherlands brokerage for the coming years insurance.

No claims or anything, just a £115 rise out of the blue.

FFS.

My insurance was quite reasonable for a tw200 at £800, but I just changed to a vw passatt it went up by £130 because I was on a mpv rate with Goodwood insurance broker with aviva underwriting.

I wouldn't say KS is like the 2 examples suggested. I met him once about 9 years ago. I was more thinking a mix of Duncan Ballantyne, Richard Branson and Peter Jones though not as tall as PJ.

Barhamm2, I'm guessing your policy is on the TFP Schemes Aviva product via Goodwood if you took your policy out after about Nov 2010. If before that it is probably on Goodwood's own branded product which has now been withdrawn if my information is correct. Goodwood were recently bought by the Towergate Insurance empire. Goodwood was set up in the mid 1990's by Nigel Martin who used to be a Lloyd's motor underwriter.

GBC - QBE did some deals for several brokers and lost a bunch of money. If memory serves me rightly Sutherlands place a lot of their business with Service Policies. Service have been insuring both hacks and PH's for years and have always been committed to the trade. They do a lot of London business through 2 main brokers I believe. They have a really good understanding of the trade.

Here is a list of insurance companies that have stopped writing taxi and PH insurance in the last couple of years:

Brit HSBC Chaucer NIG Quinn Link Zenith Jubilee.

RSA have cut back a lot and I think now only sell through CABLINE. I understand Groupama are now no longer writing new business and also possibly not inviting renewals.

I've just left markerstudy oddly enough because I got a better offer through Tradex.

Never had any problems with them.
