At around 6-7p more a litre (i think thats what it used to be) is BP Ultimate or Total Premium Diesel or Shell Ultra fuel any better mpg than normal fuel considering the higher costs.Any evidence or is it just extra mark up? What if you mix different brands? |

The Government get enough without you adding to there coffers. apart from you paying more there is no difference to normal diesel. If by a miracle we where allowed the diesel we could get over 25 years ago diesel with nowt taken out, cars would run much better |

ive tried the premium brands and found no benefit MPG-wise, though it SEEMED my engine was quieter winter diesel has additives to prevent freezing of fuel i do a regular route twice a day, 6 days a week term-time, in summer i get 50mpg off shell fuel saver, thats down to 46mpg at the moment my fuel bill last year was £3500 this years looks like hitting £4000 despite half of last years being done with a 35mpg tourneo and since in a mondeo tdci |

I've tried the premium fuel a few times (when fuel was around £1 a litre) cos i read it was good to use every 3-4 fill ups to keep everything clean in the fuel lines,valves,tank etc but it didnt recommend everytime due to the extra cost.I found i got the same mpg as with normal diesel.My car is 1.6 diesel peugeot,mostly motorway/highway use. I think fuel will be over £1.50 by the summer,oil will race when it gets/stays above $100 a barrel (Brent Crude $103 currently, NYMEX Crude $91.50,this NYMEX Crude has jumped $5 since last thurs/fri due to developments in egypt) The analysts predicting oil to be $100 to $120 a barrel in near future-things are gonna get even more painful. |

Ever since they bought this low sulphur diesel out cars have been breaking down on a massive scale. |

I use BP Ultimate. Vehicles have more power, a little more on mileage. Keep the revs down, not so much with the heavy foot, you will get more mileage. I always see a hack’s and ph's racing back to town to get back on a rank just incase they miss a job, and then wait there for the next 1hr for a job. Same on a town road with traffic lights. speed off at green light then hit the anchors heavy at the next set of red lights, and then they moan about the mileage. |

For years the fuel companies have rubbished all the additives that are on sale for petrol and diesel saying that their fuels are complete as they are and there is nothing to be gained by adding anything. Now,it seems that whilst all fuels are still equal,some are more equal than others and for a few P extra you can gain power,economy or lower your emissions (lovely). So,do they take something out of the better stuff to make it worse or add something to the lower grade stuff to make it 'better'.Does the stuff they add justify the title additive?. |

Do you mean you only use V power or that's only part of your total, because a tank can do me a whole week 
I've been using about a third V power and I think it's improved my fuel consumption by a couple of mpg and some claim that it could protect the injectors etc from damage, but I'm not sure. Anyway, if my consumption really was improved by a couple of mpg then it;s worth the extra few pence for the £20/£30 worth per week, but of course the improvement may have been due to other factors so in short I don't really know for certain. I suspect it does help slightly though, and sufficiently so to offset the extra price, so it probably doesn't do any harm to use it. |
