Whilst waiting for pupils to come out today all taxis were given a letter from the school saying "we have been asked to make spot checks on licences"

now ive nothing to hide but can anyone ask me to produce my DVLA licence?

County expect us to wear our BADGE at all times, no problem and i doubt the school would know what a PCV licence is

but its pretty rich coming from a school whose 16 seat minibus driver hasnt passed a D1 test!

If that's part of the tendering process then they can ask for anything.

That said asking for a copy of a DVLA license is a bit pointless.

im happy to show my BADGE, which is all im showing, and all that is included specifically in the standard "requirements" for drivers (to always wear badge), as far as im aware only a police officer can demand to see my driving licence or give me a production notice.

A badge is good enough proof you've got a licence IMO.. sounds like they are checking up on drivers and operators.

He doesn't need to have passed the test!

Are the fees for the pupils picked up at the station the same as all the other pupils? If so then it would not be classed as a commercial journey.

The bus is not being driven for commercial purposes though is it? You may not like it but you will be flogging a dead horse.

I think the license checks are probably TAXI licenses and it will presumably a box ticking exercise so that the school can show they are being proactive in protecting their pupils and as for the school minibus I think Grandad is right we have a few private schools in this area and their vehicles tend to be driven by a variety of teachers and other staff I don't think schools are classed as a business therefore the drivers won't need to hold a D1 license

Ragdale Hall have 2 minibuses for picking up the staff. They don't need licences.

If any of the kids were mine and I was paying £15K per year what would hack me off was the school putting them in an old Volvo estate 7 seater with 2 of the kids crammed in the back looking rearwards when it wouldnt cost a tenner to book a local taxi firm to do the run to the railway station when the 17 seater was on other duties
