Hi all, just a quick intro as Im new on here and new to the PH trade.. obtained my 3 licences etc earlier in the year... Im based in Northants and have a T5 8 seater and have set up T5 Transfers.. aiming at northants to uk airports etc and event travel... been nosing around the forum and it seems very informative and helpful.. I am thinking of setting up card payments and would like a little help and advise please, - ive read through the credit card payment thread - but seems a minefield ! I wont be doing much I guess in the way of cards but would like the facility, but dont want to be tied to contracts and rentals etc , any suggestions ? what do you guys think is the best system ?

many thanks Gary

Yeah, helloo and welcome Gary, as you're new don't be listening to other tits in the office telling you what to do, do what you applied to do and nothing more nothing less, as for the chip n pin, they are about £1.50pw to hire but the three I know locally who got them didn't do well enough with it to balance the cost.

t5gary: Don't want to put you off Cards but Chip&Pin is mostly a Metropolitan thing, Business Execs on expenses and Ladies who Lunch, then, in the evening, Ok-Ya's out to Dinner.

There's not only the Rental of the Machine, but also the Cost of the Line and the Service Charges from the Card Company, which can be very high if your Sales are low.

As all your jobs will be pre booked you may try either direct bank transfers for debit card payments or even paypal for credit card payments.

Welcome aboard Gary.

Go to the taxi show at the end of this month at Coventry. There you will see a number of different payment methods on offer.

Last year I saw a system which you could use on your own smartphone, rather than use a separate contraption.

Hi Gary I would suggest the show at Coventry as a good starting point to get the info on cards By the way which part of Northants are you based ?

thanks for the welcomes and advise guys, I will nip up to Cov and have a butchers at the diffent systems as its only up the road.. there are a couple of ways I had looked into debit /credit card with paypal.. a system called paypodd - but need a merchant paypal acount, and another was cashflows.. all can be done on my iphone.. which sounds modern and handy sure, but would customers be happy with me typing their card details into my mobile phone !? maybe ..

It's either that or cash? 8-[

But isn't that what folks do when shopping on the internet?

Hi, yep it is, and i totally agree, but I'm not sure , if its a chip n pin type affair then ok, or a terminal with receipt , but hey .

I wouldn't give an unknown Taxi Driver my Card Number and either the PIN or the 3 Number thingy. I would, however, be happy to use a Terminal.

However the Drivers will miss out on the Tips, in a big way.

Also the whole process is quite time consuming and you might be hard pressed if the Customer wishes to alight in an unsuitable place to park/stop.

Some terminals ask if you would like to tip the driver
