'Ignorant' taxi drivers always ask for directions
I AM a regular user of Derby's yellow taxis.
What never fails to amaze me is the shockingly poor level of customer service their drivers seem to feel is acceptable.
With very few exceptions, despite the fact my journeys are always within Derby and only last for two or three miles at most, the drivers always claim not to know where my destination is and demand to be given directions almost every step of the way.
Their response, when I dare to suggest they should know themselves, is surly, rude and downright ignorant.
I am lucky in that, as an ex-Derby resident, I am able to give directions. If I were a visitor to the city, or unable to give directions for some other reason, I have no idea what would happen.
Or is, as I suspect, the claim by drivers not to know where they are going merely a bluff to see if they can extract extra money for the fare by extending the journey for some unsuspecting passengers?
If not this, then the lack of knowledge and dreadful attitude displayed by Derby's taxi drivers reflects badly on the taxi trade as a whole.
