Usually they are combined.

And in many places we don't need a MOT, just an exemption certificate. :wink:

Sussex is correct, but if it's the family car your licensing and your wife/sprog's going to drive it, it must have a normal MOT as well unless they're licensed drivers.

I am not sure how it goes under the Local Government Act down south but up here under The Civic Goverment Act once a vehicle has been licensed as a taxi or private hire vehicle only licensed drivers can drive the vehicle at any time ie. even though they are not actually on hire

There was a very detailed report last year by Aberdeen City Council on various matters & this was one of them

At the time the police confirmed this was indeed this was the case but went on to say they would not normally take enforcement action in the case of spouses driving vehicles

I'm reliably informed by my man in the north that in York all hackneys and PHV's require both a council test and all vehicles over 1 year old also need an M.O.T, so the law of the land states that you need an MOT at three years old but the council say one year old

If they are not licensed then they shouldn't be driving it. [-X

Isn't it the case that the law of the land says that if it's a taxi or PH then the three year rule doesn't apply?

I'm not sure, but this is just another case of councils thinking up their own statutes. [-(
