"Please be aware that Meter tests also examine the possibility of "flying/rolling" tariffs. You should NOT be able to change between tariffs once your journey has started" What about picking up 15 mins before the nightly change to T2 and its an hours job? LA's Have no control over PH rates so how can they legally enforce this? |

as far as im aware the la is only has a problem with meters that don't lock into tarrif once a journey has started and can be changed mid journey you will still be able to chosse a lower/higher tarriff but obviouslly if your caught running a higher tarriff than you are allowed then trouble is heading your way no-one is stoping you running a t1 rate after 23:00 when you go to T2 as the fare sheet says "maximum Hackney Carraige Fares table" not Absoult hackney carriage fares table but as for private hire i would imagine as usual you can charge what you want as you have that right so it may not apply? |

LA's Have no control over PH rates so how can they legally enforce this? I take it you haven't got calender control meters.

LA's Have no control over PH rates so how can they legally enforce this? If its an hours job then whats the problem? presumably its a decent job regardless of the tariff (if it take 1 hour to complete) If a customer wants a taxi before the rates go to tariff 2 and are outside waiting then I dont see a problem. Of course, I have a calendar controlled meter which changes tarrif at the correct time (including half way through the journey)

So do i if i want it to, thing is we change tariffs at different times, like 12 noon on xmas eve (T1 toT2) . But the point is, do they have the right to tell us what we can/cant do with fares, us being PH. I say they cant, but i'll stand corrected if i'm wrong. |

Its not going to help but I believe there are two schools of thought. 1, The customer hired the vehicle at a specific time to ensure he was charged the cheaper tariff and as the hire started before the rate went up, then the driver should not touch the taximeter. 2, The rate goes up at an appointed time irrespective of the customer. Incidentally, the calendar control is set to accept the changes as you describe (provided its on the fare card). Taximeters are not a statutory requirement in either the 1847 or 1976 acts. However most local authorities require taxis to have meters fitted by way of bye law or proprietors license. I suggest the answer to your question is in there. regards Captain Cab |

Our tariffs apply at the time the journey begins, even if it's only one minute of a sixty minute journey. Is this standard practice? |

they should BAN all drivers who drive PINK ones and cant work there sat nav..no problem with woman drivers (my mum has done it for over 20 years) but ive got a problem with woman drivers who work for a firm that gets it work by scareing females in to believeing that all the other(men) cant be trusted . this way off getting work should not be allowed as its done more damage to the trade as a whole (as if we need more damage). if a all male firm set up and said were safer then the PINK ones they would have us in court saying prove it. the real danger is sick (mostly) men been bogus taxi drivers and attacking woman, this is nothing to do with the real drivers but the papers put it differantly so it leaves it open for the PINK people to rip us to bits more in the name off getting fares( have they never heard of building up a reputation) but the people dont care as they need to sell an bad idea at our cost well somebody said woman taxi drivers and you started me off!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Is this standard practice? Not a chance, we stopped takingbooking for 11,15pm because we were flooded with punters trying to get a car before we went on T2. I dont take late pickups after the changeover unless they're prepared to pay the extra. And anyone in at the time gets charged once it ticks over. |

The question you have to ask is would they're electric supplier keep them on the same rate if they started watching telly at 3am and carried on until 6pm? Or BT perhaps? |

My question was actually about taxis charging the council tariff, and the applicable rate in Fife is when the journey begins - is this what happens in other areas? |
