Forced by who?
Surely the cap is just a maximum?
Wheres the free market?

As you say they can charge the rate imposed but could stop the standing charge for example, £200/year gas, £200/year leccy...

The blame for rising fuel costs is the increase in wholesale prices but if thats so, how come the energy companies are making record profits?...

Read my post above. The answer is there.

Quote:
Some of the electric company's, Octopus in particular, have suggested this already because they do not want to put up the price but are being forced to do so and thus make obscene profits.

So they are FORCED to treble the retail price? i smell BS

They could give all customers a big rebate for a start

Sooner or later a retailer will break cover (its starting with petrol now, 199.99 down to 175.9) and consumers will get to move supplier

Yes, FORCED to put the prices up. Some of them are volunteering to pay extra to help people through the winter.

what about the £300/year standing charges...

Before the prices starting rocketing, my daily costs in summer would have maybe been 70p or so most days, including standing charge :-o

In summer, it's really only the days when I put the washing machine on and the like when I'd maybe go over £1 a day 8)

Even at current prices, doubt it's costing me much more than £1 a day...

Of course, it's all change at the end of the month when the price cap rockets, and it's due to rocket even more in January

And it's when the colder weather starts, and the heating etc goes on when my consumption really starts to rocket.

But I'm aiming for £2 a day or so between the 1st October hike and when the winter really comes in :?

A mid-sized LCD TV apparently uses 100 watts.

So if it's on for 10 hours per day, that's 1 kWh

So that was a maximum of 20p per day before the prices started to rocket.

At current prices, that's about 30p maximum.

After 1 October, probably 50p or so for the ten hours.

Most modern household bulbs are 10-15 watts or so, therefore cost insignificant unless you leave several of them burning non-stop :?

Mostly weve just stopped using the electric cooker once we got the air fryer

all sockets go off at bedtime, so no vampire useage, kettle 2 cups at a time

just done the leccy reading - 4kwh @ 28p in 24 hrs

gas no meter movement

Im toying with changing the Gas Fire and back bolier to a more efficient Regular gas boiler and then putting a wood burner stove back in the hearth where the Gas fire and Back Boiler was.....Might save some money long term but at least It'll leave me with heat in case of any energy shortages over winter.

Liz Truss has promised to announce a plan to deal with soaring energy costs WITHIN A WEEK if she becomes prime minister on Tuesday.

The Tory leadership hopeful, the favourite according to pollsters, told the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg she would "act immediately" to help with bills.

(If she can find her office)

A rather rich mate of mine had solar panels added to her 5 million pound home.

When they were fitted it was estimated she would get her money back within 10-12 years.

She had a phone call the other day saying that it would now be just over 4 years.

Didn't think it was legal to buy a wife in this day and age.
