Post subject:  PCO knowledge application - Police caution?

Hi,

I am in the process of making an application to the PCO for the black taxi 'all london' knowledge and have just received an application pack.

When i was approximately 16 (currently 28 ) i was arresed for a class c drug (cannabis) I was not chraged and i'm pretty sure i received a caution. I think i probably have to disclose this due to the CRB check. I want to make it absolutely clear that i was only 16 at the time and have never touched the stuff since. Will this go against me?

Any help much appreciated!

Just be honest and upfront.

Most people have some sort of history, but even taxi/PH drivers are allowed a second chance.

No it won't.

If it had been for possesion with intent to supply a class A drug, that would be different.

Then you would have to apply at the PCO's Minicab wing. :D

The caution would have lasted until you were 18 yrs old, after that they wipe the slate clean giving you a clean sheet, am led to believe that cautions only last 5 years then are cleaned off for the under 18's at the age of 18yrs old, to give you a chance

Just put down the the date you were cautioned and the offence of possesing cannabis. They won't prohibit your license for that mediocre offence.

Hi Guys,

Thanks very much for all the replies, they have been very helpful! I called the PCO this morning to ask for advice, they to said it would not affect my application.

Skinny pete, i have also read alot about cautions only lasting 5 years etc but have also found conflicting info whilst googling around. I think i will just disclose everything to be on the safe side.

Many Thanks

Back to your usual abuse Mr I.T man? You should take anger management courses, the Bus industry must be going through a bad spell at the moment.

Your 'adopted' side needs the enhanced checks because of the quality of criminals the industry has always attracted.

If you had any clue as to what you post, which clearly you don't, you would know all real London Cabbies have the full CRO check every three years, the difference being our backgrounds are checkable whereas your rapists and wrong un's from Africa and East Europe have NO checkable background.

I'll take a lttle wager with you Blobby.

Whats the chances that within the next few weeks yet another story about a licensed Minicab driver will appear in the London news about yet another rape or assault occuring?

What say you?

I'd say greater than that of England bringing home the cup. 8)

PS, what happened to your signage that was a forgone conclusion?

Best hurry Sir Steve along on that one once he's finished name dropping.

London aside, where the knowledge prevents money from being a requisite to getting a bagde, then I think you'll find that there are as many if not more "criminals" in the taxi trade, if you want to launder money, what better nway than a few £40k plates, and rent from drivers, certainly a lot quicker to clean money this way than through PH driving, also because of lack of checkable background, these immigrants, is that not more to do with immigration Law than driving a PH, sorry but you really come accross as a [edited by admin], why do you feel you have the place to be arrogant, yer a bloody taxi driver FFS, doesn't make you clever or anything, I gave up a job that had much more money and much more Kudos than a london cabbies, but that disn't make me an arrogant F**kwit, sorry but folk like you are just insecure liitle men, looking for a cat to kick.

The whole point of having these checks is to determine who is and who isn't a fit and proper person? There is no doubt that councillors and administrators are sometimes fallible and that is why we have in place an appeal process which in reality is there to rectify any wrong and unlawful decisions councillors and administrators might make?

If you wish to have any chance at appeal it would be in your interest to register all offences, otherwise the court might take a dim view of your failure to register?
