I spend, on average, about £1,000 a year.
That includes servicing and anything that needs doing for my taxi test.

I had to ask this question because I thought I was seeing things when I read Dave Millward had offered his expert opinion that Liverpool cabbies spend 12 grand a year on Maintenance and that excludes both Insurance and finance. The majority of Liverpool owners have "probably" never spent 12 grand on a cab never mind maintenance. However considering TDO is the barometer of the Taxi trade I have to ask the question..... "Does Anyone beside Dave Millward" spend 12 grand a year on maintenance? Dave Millward is a registered user on here so perhaps he can explain his 12 grand away on TDO, on the other hand he might prefer to explain his sums in his own magazine. Either way his credibility is shot to pieces. Regards JD |

I spare no expense on London's best kept example of a TX1. But I would probably put the 12K towards a new Taxi, opposed to my '98 model.

I have averaged about £8K a year over the last two years on my Vito although it does average about 85000 miles a year but the first two years of the vehicle were nearer £2.5K it is serviced every 10000 miles and that also includes the cost of taxi tests which are twice annually at £60 plus £35 for retest |

When you consider LTI are on record as saying they hope to sell 20,000 vehicles through their chinese partners to chinese cabbies etc, I'm beginning to wonder how, based on Mr Milliard's maintenance figures these Chinese cabbies will be able to afford such a luxury item? Perhaps the earnings potential of chinese cabbies is far greater than that of our own? lol But what about the Pakistani market, won't they also be in the same boat? Can someone ask LTI the question, did they inform their Far East partners that assuming chinese cabbies can afford 26 grand for a new vehicle that the maintenance cost of keeping these vehicles on the road thereafter would likely bankrupt most cabbies? I can see by your most recent post that you found the reference to which I referred? I also notice that Mr Millwards figures on maintenance and those of your own which were published on this site some two years ago, are somewhat incompatible? On this occasion I care to believe your figures because they have a sense of realism about them where as Mr Millwards figures seem to be bordering on fantasy. JD |

He said: "It costs around pounds 1,000 a month to run a taxi". Liverpool specifies the type of cab drivers must have. They cost from pounds 29,995 but can be as much as pounds 35,000. "Add insurance at pounds 200-pounds 300 a month plus finance payments" and it is an expensive business. What you are actually referring to is a statement that the echo says he made, having had personal experience with reporters in the past, I have found that they will write the piece the way it most suits them, I do not believe for one minute he made that statement, and I am quite sure he was referring to, the cost of the vehicle, the insurance, licensing and road tax fees, repairs, and radio rental........ I would have thought you would have known better than to take what is printed in a newspaper as being entirely factual.
