Hi Peeps, pretty new here, so still on the search button a lot & trying to pick a few brains, hope you don't mind 
I have my driving assesment this week for my PH licence & just wondering if there's anything I should know ?? I'm fairly confident in my actual ability & can use the vahicle i want to licence but I'm not sure what formalities there are. I presume i should just drive steady whilst making good & safe progress. Any tips welcome

Any tips welcome Sounds about right to me. The thing is the LOs can't be too harsh cos any appeal against them to the courts, if they were, would succeed cos they aren't qualified to judge people's driving. Hence the DSA Taxi Test.

I would check under what rules your driving will be assessed. Is the test being conducted by the DSA? if not What qualifications does the examiner have? Advise given cannot be accurate as we are not aware of the circumstances around the test .............. and if you were to suggest the examiner was not qualified if you needed to appeal, you would look foolish if you found they were. Ask the questions first .......... try and find out the format of the test and drive to the best of your ability. B. Lucky

Yep been at it a year or two, in my mid 40's & got my licence when I was 17 - god i feel old now 
I got the "routes" today from them & apparently they choose 5 routes at random from 15 on the list - fairy nuff, no problem. The start of every route happens to be at the end of the previous route, so I assume that they will select 5 at random but sequential (i.e. from 6-10 inclisive) ?? Also, each route has a start, finish and each road inbetween, some of these although maybe the shortest by a metre or two, are silly because of extremely narrow streets etc when for a few metres mor it would be much more direct (and make sense). Should I bite the bullet & go thru the motions of driving without a brain, or would it be accepted that ABC is better than their route ??? (I have a feeling I know the answer here !) Thanks chaps, it's good to find help from those doing the job & know the pitfalls. |

"take the shortest PRACTICAL route" it says here? so going past a school in a narrow st when the kids are out and about, to my mind isn't practical! There again it's not me taking the test!!

Maybe i will ask the "examiner" politely before we set off. Seems so silly to save a few yards by putting a 7 seater through tiny cuts fit for a smart car. Thanks Smiffyz
