Some of them can't do the KOL, some don't want to do it. There is money to be made driving a PH you know.

It's quite simple, their lack of ability to both control and drive a vehicle safely, and their complete lack of ability to speak English in England will mean they are destined to drive Minicabs until the day they are deported. In a way I thank them for transporting the dross around london, whilst I take the nice folks out to Wimbledon. Rumour has it Steve Wright (LHPCA) and Terry Flannagan (Minicab rep) also use real London Taxi's opposed to their own. Speaks volumes.

With all that in mind one has to wonder why all the black cab firms give work to the London PH firms. Especially the long distance work.

Especially the long distance work. ![]() That's quite a simple one to explain. Unlike some town's or cities, the street and rank work in London can be plentiful, or at least enough to make a living without paying someone for your work.
As a result of that, not enough drivers are on the radio, Radio taxi's have taken the unprecedented step of advertising on the back of Buses! as so many drivers have returned to being independant drivers. It's also why we have the cheapest 'Radio rents' in the land, with ComCab's main circuit starting at a mear £18 a week (plus a £1 a job), and Dial-a-Cab at £150 a month! As for the 'long distance' work, if it's busy in town I'll sooner stay there over a trip out to no mans land anyday, especially when these trips are done on 'account' rates and not the metered rate I'll be on. |

In this area you have to have a Hackney Licence to drive a Private Hire; its the same meter rate (yes all P/H's have meters) and the same compliance test. There are just three main differences - 1. about ten grand in the price of the plate, 2. rank work obviously and 3. P/H have the right to refuse drunks etc. I drive both Hack car and P/H minibus. Then again reading some of the posts on here about P/H I think they are referring to what when I lived in London were called Minicabs and not fully licenced as they are here. |

Strange that most drivers on there aren't best pleased about it then.
Still at least Mr Rice has one friend.

How does this one pound per job work? Your not suggesting a driver pays one pound for every job he get off the radio surely? £150 month is expensive, compared to radio rent in Manchester. Regards JD |

Are you saying Hacks can't refuse drunks? |
