Newcastle airport is run by a private company and seven local councils,which means that Airport taxis consists of a mixture of seven different boroughs and has done for many years.They are all licensed hackneys from different boroughs so does this mean that they have been operating wrongly for years p.s i am not the brightest spark but this puzzles me

I assume that because the airport is private property then the normal plying for hire rules don't apply and the airport owners can control which vehicles can use the airport ranks.

But they also do prebooked fares on their radio circuit they started up about 7 years ago. Does this mean that an operator could use outside hacks for his office as long as his base is on private land.

Well I don't think the private land aspect is relevant in this case, since a HC can do pre-booked work anywhere. It's only when plying for hire in a public place that the licencing authority area becomes relevant, but if it's private land then this becomes irrelevant as well.

So basically an HC can do pre-booked work anywhere, can do what it wants on private land anywhere, but can only ply for hire in a public place in its relevant LA area (unless it's Carlise of course, where there's another complication )

Anyway, I think that's right, but the question has been discussed at some length on here recently and with some vehemence, so I suspect it's a case of "light the blue touchpaper and retire".

Justice for the 96. It has only taken 27 years...........repeat the same lies for 27 years and the truth sounds strange to people!

Rumour has it that the conncils here are going to change the byelaws. I.e that says that a hack from another area must have a badge for the offices area that he is working from sounds a bit like some people are panicking to me I have also heard that instead of taking the operators to court,that they are diverting their attention to individual drivers instead .Which leaves the case of how can they defend themselves against a connsil

Its a strange situation Newcastle Airport but the reason for cars from different areas working there is down to the fact that 7 local authorities funded the building work initially and then jointly managed it.

Maybe they will be effected if the cross border HC issue is ever properly questioned but I think the lads and lasses involved up there will make sure that every aspect of their business is legal.

If they are only using taxis, then they are ok for any pre-booked work.

Providing the rank isn't by the main road, so as to tempt folks from the streets, then they are operating within the law.

The rank is right outside the terminal doors Sussex.

Passengers must walk passed Airport Taxi vehicles to get to the PH or pre-booked pick up point.
