How do others fair when a Scottish note is tendered, the punter seems as tho they wanna get rid of it fast, keep the change driver after filtering it out of their wallet

I have had many occassions when a punter would not accept a Scotish note as change, come to think about it garages won't accept Scottish notes , Asda does tho, "give us a break mate, just deal us in with real money" is the words I get from punters

was down in Devon recently for an Army reunion, went into a pastry shop in Tin Town Teinmouth, bought some eats, I tendered the Scotch fiver, this is what happened

the woman behind the counter said

I can't accept this is aint legal tender, every note is forged, its more than my jobs worth and my boss will sack me for it

I said its legal tender, she said nope it ain't, so I took a bite out of the sausage roll and said thats all I got, Scottish currency, so you want the part eaten roll back then do you

well she said have you got any ID so if there is a problem and the police are involved we can come back to you, I said no have no ID and went on my way

wonder if she still has a job

English notes don,t have sterling on them scots ones do check it out!!!!!

The trouble is its harder to spot a fake scottish note than a fake english note, the reason behind this is we in england are far more used to spotting a fake english note as we use them all day every day!! I have no problem accepting them but i do try and check them more carefully for the above reason, i hope that makes sense.

They still use sterling in Northern Ireland. I was handed a Northern Ireland £20 note a few weeks back. Again the punter had no other money. I hadn't a clue if it was real or not. It was the first time I had seen this type of note. Fortunatly the bank said it was fine.
How many of you have had a Scottish £100 note?

Accept it all Bankl of England, Bank of Scotland, Clydedale Bank, Northern Bank (Irish with wierd plastic cash), Jersey, and Ilse of Man, its all legal tender, and the bank will happily take it when you deposit you takings.

I personally don't like taking scottish money but I begrudginly do. I then try to out it as quickly as possible in a petrol station or something. Had an arguement with a petrol station cashier about 2 years ago when trying to pay with a scottish fiver. Pumped £10 of diesel into cab, grabbed scottish fiver and £5 in pound coins to pay with, handed over the cash and was greeted with "can't take that it aint legal" to which I replied "It's sterling and I believe you're obliged to take it, also I've no more money so wether you take it or not I will be driving out of here" "No we don't take scottish or irish money" she says, I reply "fair enough with regards to eire as it's now euros but anything marked sterling you have to accept". Now she says "well my boss has said we can't take them" "You should have signage on your pumps saying that you wont then, just like you have about not taking fifties or cheques" "That's not my problem" she says. "Can I speak to your boss then" I says "She's away for the day" she says "Well you must have an emergency number for your boss" I says By now she's getting real pis-sed off and begrudginly telephones her boss and speaks to her for several minutes with the gist being that the boss was as dosy as the cashier, the cashier hands me the telephone where I go through all of the above with her after several minutes of trying to explain what sterling is she agreed to accept it but only this time as I had no more money. Anyway, the petrol station is now closed but right up until they closed no signage was ever placed on the pump about not accepting these notes so I would've quite happily gone in and done the same thing.

On one occasion I was handed a Scottish fiver which had a small picture of Mickey Mouse on it. I didn’t realise until the feel of the paper gave it away and inspected it further, before putting it into my wallet. I did, however, manage to give it away to another willing victim who pis8** me off that night. “Revenge is a dish best served cold” as they say. BTW, Yes GA, it was a terrible thing to do, and I know you wouldn’t have even considered doing the same even for a moment, but then again, we can’t all be as super as you.

I have to take them as lots of the Off Shore guys fly down from Scotland; and yes I do shove them into the nearest petrol station normally and get the same "legal / not legal tender" arguement everytime. To make things a bit easier - all us from South of the Border know what to check for in an English Bank Note and where to buy UV checkers / pens etc. Could someone North of the Border perhaps enlighten us on what to check for, the purchasing of fraud detection aids etc. If its sterling its legal but I'd like to be able to check same as I do Bank of England Notes.

I once got a fare to Edinburgh a few years ago and all he had was a scottish £100 note.I took the chance but admit i was filling my pants till i got to the bank.it was a large red note,i have not seen one since

My favourite is giving an english person ive dropped of at edinburgh airport a £5 pound scottish note in their change and watching their face its priceless! You know aswell they will spend it in the airport rather than risk taking it home. It is so amusing to us this thing with scottish money,we take english,irish no problem as for detecting fakes the usual watermark,squint printing dodgy paper much the same as dodgy english notes i suspect!!!!!
