A few weeks ago I picked up a Manchester Hackney cab driver who stiffed me for a ten pound fare. I was just wondering if any other subscriber to TDO had suffered a similar experience? Regards JD |

Regards JD Perk of the job is'nt it Joking aside and a stupid question to follow! how do you know that he was a hackney? How did I know? lol Because he gave me his badge. lol The problem was, it only had five days to run. Therefore I came to the conclusion that he had either renewed his badge or he had had it revoked? He said come back to his address the following day which was a Friday. I came to the conclusion that he was an azzhole and I would be wasting my time. That's my educated guess. Should I have gone back to his address and wasted more time or should I put it down to experience? I chose the latter. I didn't know the guy had no money until I got to his destination. I keep telling everyone to get their money upfront if the person looks dodgy but It just goes to show that we are all infallible. Needles to say in future I'll be very aware of Asian Taxi Drivers. Regards JD |

So without even going back to see if the guy was genuine you have now decided that all asian taxi drivers are out to stiff you. What a bad attitude. |

Regards JD It is easy to be caught off guard, TBH I dont like to keep asking for money up front unless it is a long journey, so just like yourself I have along with many others have been caught out. It does annoy me that people would do such a thing as to get in without the means to pay, it is not a thing that I have ever done and really goes against the grain. More often or not it means that they have drunk their taxi fare, then we get the - or come on drive I will pay you when we get to the other end! NOOOOOOOOO. If you are in that area again a knock on the door might not go amiss - who knows - you are probably right but you never know. I heard of one driver who had a similar experience with a woman who did it on a regular basis, she would literally get to her address and say that she was not paying. He took a tube of super glue back with him and glued her front door lock - she must be still locked in - have'nt seen her since - that was six months ago
Not that I am suggesting that you do the same

Not that I am suggesting that you do the same ![]() lol the thing is as you say, we all get caught out on occasions. The knack is reducing the number of such incidents by being vigilent and trying to make the correct call when weighing up passengers? Regards JD |

I hardly ever ask for cash up front. In 5 years ( 3ph 2 hackney ) I have been stiffed 3 times. Acceptable occupational hazzard |
