Taxi health warning

THE HEALTH meter could be ticking for taxi drivers. Male cabbies have been identified as a high risk group in terms of Coronary Heart Disease and Diabetes.

Craig Walker, owner of J&P Taxis in Redcar, east Cleveland, is not surprised. He said: "A lot of my male taxi drivers have been with the company over five years. They drive unsociable hours, eat the wrong types of food, usually fast food.

"After five years this work-style must start taking its toll.'' Taxi drivers are being invited to have free health 'MoTs' because their unsocial hours and shifts spent sitting behind the wheel of a car are putting them at risk of chronic illness.

The health checks are being offered to coincide with Men's Health Week and National Diabetes Awareness Week which starts on Monday. (JUNE 11) The unfit cabbies will be offered tests for blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and body fat.

They will be asked about stress, advised on stopping smoking, alcohol intake and weight management. Mr Walker said: "I think Men's Health Week may be the catalyst my drivers need to be aware of their potential risks."

Taxi drivers are being invited to drop into the Corus Steel Club, on South Avenue, Dormanstown between 10am and 4pm to be checked out. Although the offer is open to all, the service has been targeted at male taxi drivers.

Very good although I would have thought a couple of masseuse might help to relieve the stress and rejuvenate the parts that need it. :P

It's the frontal lobe with sleep deprivation that is interesting,they carried out experiments and found that people who were suffering from sleep deprivation exhibited some of these traits,they had difficulties thinking of imaginative words or ideas,they tended to choose repetitious words or cliched phrases,they may show signs of slurred speech, stuttering, speaking in a monotone voice, or speaking at a slower pace than usual.

It strikes me there must be a lot of people on these sites who are suffering from sleep deprivation.

P.S It also causes problems with the metabolising of sugar it turns to fat instead :shock:
