the last York stn taxi rank permit is about to be issued, 3 drivers are in the contest, talking to one driver who is trying to get one, he has to put forward why he should be considered for a permit, once issued, thats it, permit limit closed, no more, they are making safe and locking down York stn to the limited few just incase of dereg.

All it will need is a few people from the disabled lobby to complain they had to wait for a WAV at the station, and the train folk's bums will start squeaking.

Or a new train company will take over and want more money via more drivers.

After the last fiasco regarding permits, the powers that be said there would be no more waiting lists and no more permits, when questioned on this they replied that there are no waiting lists but there are people who are waiting for permits and they are not the same thing, as a waiting list would indicate that the first person on that list would get the next available permit and this, in the bizzare world that is Station taxis York is not going to be the case.

If YCC eventually come to there senses and bring in DE reg the station permits will no longer exist, and will be a free for all, as all existing rules will have to go
punters will be able to negotiate the fare with the driver as well
Oh happy days, and dont forget to challenge the council over the one colour rule
eee by eck lad when I was young, i could spit horse int eye at 50 paces and still have room for maneuver

The station rank is on private ground and is not an appointed rank so the council have no say on the matter, so the permits will still be in existence

The road that runs through the station is not on private ground, it was the main road at one point, My mother used to clean the station and has said that when they modernised it, a road was built outside it, the only way it could be private now is if it was bought from the council.
go to the records office or library and ask to see the plans from 1950 back the way, and enquire with the council if it was ever purchased from them, i think you will find it was not and is still common ground to which anyone has access

yes this has been looked at over the years but gets quite murkey as you proceed through the files, and becomes complicated, a few cab drivers went down that road looking at this but got bogged down

you are right, it is the old A19 road, led to believe the railway company does the road maintainance but bills the Council, the railway company also have stolen what is known as Tea Room Square, at the end of the Portico which leads to the Royal York hotel, this belongs to the people of York, this is a place to which in the original plans of a couple of years ago a council taxi rank was to be placed in that area, but the plans was altered, it never happened, now its a parking plot and British Transport police vehicle park

a York Stn shareholder now has never been better off, they couldn't give shares away not long ago, no one wanted them, i wonder now what they are worth now with the closed shop

i was speaking to one of the Horse and Carriage hackney owners who had a meeting with the Council re dereg, after a discussion it was felt by him the Council are only firing warning shots over the bows letting taxi drivers know what they can do./could do
