Last night I had to go up to the airport for a job, and when I got there my passenger was waiting at the drop off point where i always arrange to pick up as long as they are ready. I had just pulled up when a woman traffic warden came up and said I was not allowed to pick, up but only drop off, and that i would receive a £30 ticket if I did so, my punter who had already opened the door stood there bewildered, as she told me I had to go into a pay and display car park to the pick up point. Would I have been within my right to ignore her and load and go. I went into the car park but was fuming that this could happen, it even cost £1.90 to do the same thing, as the punter did not know exactly where the pick up point was and took 15 Min's to find me. |

The pay and display car park is separate from the drop zone, the drop zone is free you collect a ticket to get in and pay on the way out, even the entrance to it is 800 yards away |

My point is that the warden said go get a ticket or you will get a ticket. So as you had your punter how would she have known then that you would have gone and got a ticket?

Sussex you do not require a ticket for the drop zone, as its totally separate from the car park, its a drive through drop point |

I don't like the system. I think the system is wrong. Spend time writing letters etc to BAA/Ferrovial/your MSP about getting it changed. It's not going to happen overnight. But you have two choices - either continue acting against Edinburgh Airport regulations/bye-laws and fight it out in court OR stick to the rules (sh!tty though they are) My advice for what it's worth - for the sake of a quid - just go for the easy life, and play by their rules for the moment. Taxi's are an easy target - if they started ticketing the public - then just watch the outcry, but that's never going to happen

It must be a BAA thing rather than just Edinburgh. They are doing it at Aberdeen Airport as well. |

At Birmingham airport, unless you are a local taxi, you have to drop off in what used to be the short stay car park and that will cost you a quid. To pick up you are supposed to use the multi-storey car park. You can drop off for free in the long stay car park but then the passengers have to wait for the curtesy coach. |

Similar thing now happens at Manchester, free drop off but minimum £1.80 (for 30mins) just to pick up. They do have some offers for regular users. |

Skippy, If your passenger is not there when you arrive at the pick up point, go to where the lifts are in the multi storey car park. There you will find a ticket machine, pay a £1 and you will get one hour waiting time. |

Ross is that next to the taxi pick up point in the car park where i had to go and wait, or do i have to go all the way in 
Don't you need to take a ticket when you enter the car park??????? I normaly wait next to where the Burger van used to sit, and the punter phones me when he is at the drop point, so its load and go |

You take the ticket on entry to the car park. The pay machines Ross is talking about are next to the lifts in the Multi-storey just next to the official rip-off taxi pick-up point. It gives you extra time for free though I doubt it's as long as an hour. 
Also if you operate the phone and pick up style - rumour has it that if you are in and out of the car park in less than 3 minutes you can get away without having to pay - but the official line is zero time for free.

Torn, the problem we have when we come up is, the dam rules change from one day to the next, we have no way of knowing what they are untill we are there

not sure about the hour ross but you do get 45mis for you £1 i aint waiting any longer than that for a fare unless its a big yin 
it a pain but BAA just want to make as much cash out of us as they can you can bet they are thinking of the next plan to rip us off right now. but every one who uses any part of the airport to pick up including buses get ripped off the the tune of thousands its a great way to stop people taking there cars and use public transport NOT as the price always get passed on to the public and dont think you are safe to chance it at say 11pm at night as one night i almost got a ticket in the drop off zone from the airport police they just told me off  . i said thank you officer and went on my way (think the big gun had something to do with me being so nice )
