Taxi Driver Online

I have just written a lengthy post & when I came to submit it, I had been logged out & I lost the post completely.

Very frustrating!!!

What is the time-out & why when you are writing a post does it not recognise that you are logged on & active, but instead logs you out after a specific length of time?

Also, what is the maximum number of words / characters allowed by the system in any single post & does this have a bearing on time-outs?

Joking apart, it was one of my better posts with some reasoned examples & arguments (I thought) & when I lost it I was well p*ssed off!!!

Mybe you should write your post first then copy and paste it then you could have as much time as you need.

I usually do when I know it's going to be a big post, but when I started the post it developed into something much bigger. I got involved trying to get a balanced view & could have, but forgot to copy the paste into Word when I had finished & then copy & paste it back into the Forum.

It's as well that my queries are answered by TDO Admin, so that all members of the Forum know.

Why don't you just use the backward arrows on the top left hand corner to go back to your half written post?

If you write a lengthy post again before you post it just select all of it and copy it. That way if you are timed out you can just paste it when you have logged back in

The session lengths are set at 3600 seconds, or in common language one hour.

It can be what ever we want it to be, what do members want?

I don't think it's a logging out problem, it's what happens when you use the ampersand (&) inappropriately too often in one post - it not only rejects the post, but destroys it as well

But apart from logging out another problem possibly relates to your internet connection - if it's dodgy then it could cause you to log out.

But as Toots says you don't need to use Word or whatever, just highlight the text in the reply window before pressing the 'submit' button.

Then copy it (I usually use ctrl-C) and if it disappears just paste it back again (ctrl-V).

If you want to make doubly sure it's in the clipboard before you go ahead then you can paste it into Word or whatever, but of course it's always in the clipboard until you copy something else, so you can paste it into Word and then paste it again without using the Word document, provided you haven't copied something else in the meantime.

Thanks for that Alex & I would think an hour is plenty long enough.

I think the problem might be self-inflicted as Fae Fife has pointed out.

I use '&' all the time, but my Internet connection is well sound.

Thanks for that Mr Fae Fife ..... it's the excessive use of '&' which I use constantly & I have been told of this problem before, a very long time ago & forgotten about it.

There I go again, using &.
