First of all a big thank you to Alex for posting the legislation on site.

Secondly, cannot see anywhere, that Licensing receipts have to be ring-fenced in any way in order to provide such things as Hackney Carriage stands.

However, from memory, i do recollect seeing that on this site somewhere. Anyone remember the subject title?

Driver's license money must only be spent on the process of issuing them i.e. manpower and badge costs.

Vehicle license money can be used on just about anything relating to the workings of the hackney carriage office i.e. license process, manpower, rank up-keep, surveys etc.

No money from any license fee should be spent on anything other than taxi/PH licensing i.e. subsidising buses or other licensing issues (tatoos, dogs, booze etc).

Section 70 of the 1976 act deals with vehicle and operator licenses, and section 53 deals with drivers.

Cheers Uncle Sus,

By the way, how you keeping? Havn't spoke for a while.

We are in the position of not actually having a proper Hackney Carriage stand anymore, as they have removed it, and replaced in different positions with Taxi only parking restrictions.

Why have they not given you any taxi ranks? Have you asked? :?

Yeah, we're using Mobi, Diplomat, Marandy, Auriga, Autocab, Datamaster, Logical Transport, Trapeze, Cordic, CabMaster, DDS, SoftSol, Raytheon, and Pilot G2 Gell pens with paper.

The latter system works the best, as it has all the advantages of the others combined together in one package called the controller's brain.

Truth is, we are not using any of the systems currently installed. They all have their advantages, but none have all the advantages or all the bits we really wanted. Most are well suited to owner-driver operations, but none are really suited to the way we actually work. Either they understand Taxi or Bus desptach or maybe both, but then don't have the ability to support fleet ops, or vehicles running different systems. There is no integration in the market sufficient to handle everything well, when you re running a system such as ours, which, to be fair, is a tad too flexible anyway. The biggest problem, is handling VAT on rented/shared cars/buses. If the system can do the two way VAT transactions, then it cant seem to do the other stuff like multiple algorythm taxibus stuff.

Mobi, which is probably the most advanced in the latter area, can't handle cashiering, and does not have predictive vehicle movement!

Diplomat, probably the best in all other areas, can't do Taxibus, and has another niggle problem too, already well debated on this site. And so on. So, I gave up on it, and my boss put the budget into building new commercial properties instead.

It took me nearly three years to find out that most systems in operation, only use part of their packages anyway. Its a nightmare.

But, glad to hear you are OK.

Andy
