A york hack is applying for a Hack Licence and have his vehicle plated in dereg Selby Yorks, giving up his York licence cos plate rentals are getting to much now

He has been told by Selby district council taxi licence dept that he must have a legal address in Selby area before they will plate him and issue licences

I say they are wrong, he needs an answer, he lives in York 14 miles from Selby

your thoughts

Selby are talking out of their arses. [-X

Get your mate to get Selby to tell him where in any act it says that?

What happens if a driver has the cheek to move house? Why can Poles and Czechs get licensed but not a mush from down the road?

Tell him to tell them that it's councils like Selby, who make it up as they go along, that give councils a bad name.

My thoughts are not worth a penny but Selby have it wrong.

Yes I will let him know, thanks to the posters, he has a letter with is explanation pack stating they need an address
I don't think he will mess around

awhile ago he was subject to a taxi test in York, the vehicle went through the motions till he got to the "rev it up and smoke test" the vehicle failed the dust cart fitters test, the driver said hey its just had a goverment MOT this morning and its past

not my problem said the taxi licence testers, the dust bin wagon tester said you got smoke, off you go and get another MOT smoke test, [2 hours after his goverment MOT]
so off he went and got another smoke test, 10 quid it cost him

so he took it up with the Council at the Council offices, all the transport comittee was there, the driver was asking for his 10 quid back, his argument was that he paid for a taxi test, the Council should have had the correct testing equipment to test the smoke test emmissions, and not go on visuals, [what are you looking for] he got his 10 quid back

mmmm. the same driver above went for his annual council test today, the plate owner does all the documentation as this plate is out on rent

last year he got a bollocking from the Licencing dept for sending a cheque to pay for his test when also the plate owner who rents the plate out to him also sent out a cheque to the council

he [the driver] got a phone call from the Council stating that he had caused much concern in the department that they could not figure out what this cheque was for, they told him in future never to send the Council money cos its the plate owners concern, that was last year

so today off he goes for the annual test, got there on time, we are not testing you, he was told, its not been paid for, driver offered 36 quid but testing council officers refused, saying they can't handle cash, so go away and that will be another 36 quid, for another appointment when we get paid, so that equals 72 quid now due, it says nothing in the instructions except that if you fail to honour your appointment a another fee will be charged

I spoke today to the driver re the above Hack, he has paid his fees to Selby district Council to have his vehicle plated and licences's

Selby district council LA dept have asked him re the Selby address, "Tell us when you are moving to this new Selby address" then we can go forward with the application, he seems to think that its something to do with the Hackney operators licence, that he must have an address in the area, I know thats not legal, but this is what he is being fed by Selby council

He also asked me in conversation would it /could it be possible to have the same vehicle licence as a dual operation, ie. have it plated for Selby, and also plated for York, to which would mean having two taxi meters, can this be done

he also asked that having just had his vehicle plated and tested in York last week, why cannot he just tranfer over to Selby, then just have a meter test,Bobs your uncle, as the standard critera must be on par with other councils

again your thoughts

As far as I know the only manors that have dual license are, or were, BIrmingham and Solihull when they shared the airport.

But if I was an LO then I couldn't imagine anything worse.

As for the thicko's from Selby, get your mate to ask them to read the Brentwwod judgement for HC ops licenses.

If HC needed ops licenses then I can understand where Selby are coming from, but they don't, and therefore I don't.
