SENTENCING - TAX
FALSE ACCOUNTING FOR INCOME TAX PURPOSES
Sentence imposed on a taxi/car hire proprietor for false accounting to the inland revenue.
The defendant company director aged 58 owned and operated a taxi hire business, "Chequer Cabs". It was proved that the defendant furnished the Inland Revenue with false information. Payments received by him from customers with accounts and rents from drivers were omitted from tax records supplied by the Inland Revenue. On 21 November 1997 the defendant pleaded guilty to three charges of false accounting.
HELD: Sentenced to nine months imprisonment suspended for two years with no order as to costs.
