I understand.... that you are trying.... to make the TRADE aware of what could be a aextremely devastating outcome.. that will cost many drivers many thousands of pounds, but what I do not understand is why you are concerned... they don't seem to be concerned. and in the end it is their money that is at stake....... they deserve all that they get.....

They will be when it happens.

I know of a very senior member of the taxi and ph trade, who bats for both sides, is rather concerned about it all.

Still there's always training.

As I stated to someone recently, I wonder how this thing got in front of the committee, after all its basically stems down to enforcement.

I think the committee was rather selective in the people it asked to give evidence.

What input could Northumberland council give? They have been in existence 18 months, they haven't finished their bye-laws yet and were not around in the cross border days.

If Mr Wilson was allowed to give evidence, why wasn't Newcastle Council?

Why was the divvy who run MK council there? Surely the council that are issuing licenses in the area giving the problems should have been questioned.

What did the HC company actually offer as evidence? We're all earning £150 per day and all HC's have data equipment ffs.

I said from the start UNITE were opening a massive can of worms, I suggest the can is now opened and the taxi trade will find itself with a threat to its very future......thanks UNITE.

It was quite apparent that the committee thought larger licensing areas may solve the problem.

As for some of the taxi trade responses to the select committee, they merely added fuel to the fire that the taxi trade wants laws changed. In my view they took the bait.

The UNITE union was misguided in all of this and has sold the taxi trade down the river. They have been out-moved by someone in the government who is better politically than them.

There are a number of facts that I find interesting.....
1.. is that a certain extremely large London-based private hire company made a significant contribution towards party funding in the last election.
2. is that the private hire section of the Equality Bill was completely withdrawn.
3. is that the same company seems to be involved in a highly heated argument with GMB regarding whether or not there drivers are full-time.. and as such should be employed.
4. why was that company represented without presenting a submission... at least I think they didn't submit a submission.
5. who was the person that made the decision of who would appear.
6. who is the puppet-master controlling the strings..
7. what will be the outcome..... and will the taxi and private hire trade be prepared.

Are UNITE, under a different name, the same union that sold the dockers down the river and hoped nobody would notice?

Funny that, the TransComm was the flavour of the month last time round.

Flavour of the decade, in fact :D

Those with any knowledge at all realise that UNITE went to Transcomm on a local issue.

Same difference.

But isn't ENFORCEMENT a NATIONAL problem?
