By the way fares in de regulated areas are generally higher than restricted areas. A quick check of PHM would verify this.

Indeed, according to PHM Oxford's T1 running mile is only £1.29 and the T2 is even less at £1.24 #-o

So a ten-mile T2 run is only £17, compared to nearer £40 for the dearer areas. :-k

That's amazing enough, but even more amazing that it's in an area with plates worth £100k

Now what is it that we are trying to achieve?

Lower fares for punters, or zero plate values?

Not yet.

I take it by that you are still thinking full de-reg is a foregone conclusion then?

I've had an interesting one said to me today from some of my mates who've been to your manor for a jolly, they got picked up and got charged just under £7 for a mile or thereabouts journey, here the same trip is about £4 in a hack and £2.80 in the PH, now once you get your free plate and the whole trade falls apart how long do you think it will be before £2.80 & Co are setting up in Brighton, virtually all your silly wishes are just like you putting a 45 to your head and squeezing the trigger, what is so funny is that you think nothing will change other than you saved a few quid not having to buy in, what you don't know is your highly efficient test isn't going to stop a flood of new applicant's, you killed yourself numbnutz.

But people cant see beyond that, they try to justify themselves thinking its for the good of the trade .Its not rocket science to understand that more taxis equals less wages ! Its not like were expecting a influx of new customers in this current reccesion is it ?

And there's not "less work" under derestriction, it stays largely the same, indeed probably increases marginally. So it's not a poorer deal "for all" if there's just the same amount of work for "all" the same drivers.

really? care to tell us where? all the evidence points to the contrary.

Gosh, so higher fares don't mean better off drivers after all

again you are well of the mark, higher fares happen because there's less work
.

So you're saying drivers are better off in derestricted areas

and again you are way off the mark

But I'd advise pulling over before posting messages on here. No wonder they're proposing compulsory CCTV in Oxford

ta for your concern

Higher fare = Less work....Blimey must be a lot of skint cabbies in London. How do they afford those half a million houses in Essex I wonder.

So the argument thus far...

All the PH will leave their radios behind, buy a HAC and sit on the Town Centre ranks. All the original HAC will leave the Town Centre ranks and get radios.

The fares with fall and rise at the same time, thus confusing all the customers and no one will travel.

There will be so much congestion caused by all these additional Taxis, that the last few customers that weren't confused by the raising falling fares will end up getting out and walking.

And Ranks, don't even go there...where will we all sit!!!! Oh I know...we will all be stuck in traffic....Simples

Well they convinced me #-o =D>

So is that your best effort at sarcasm ? So lets take here for a moment, theres a restricted amount of hackney licences, some are on rAdios some on independant(street work only) .Theres obviously only so much work that comes of the street/ranks so another 50 or so new licences doesnt affect that does it ? Its hard enough just trying to get on a rank at this present time. But not to worry we can go on radio companys too,and pay are bosses who are allready discounting fares. At least theyll be no confusing punters because well all be running for cheaper than before ... As you said "simples" and i guess you really are

Nope not at all

Lower fare = low class of driver and vehicle, anyone with a brain won't enter the trade, those without one will be blissfully unaware that the £3 they just earned they already had £2.10 of it already sloshing around in the tank and in the form of running cost's.

Old mate of mine had a saying......go cheap...go skint, and those are about the most sensible words I ever heard come out of a cabby.

I'd say London was a little busier than anywhere else.

I think every SUD survey I have read always has an indicator of a number of people who have given up and made other arrangements to get home, for whatever reason.

If we can stop punters going elsewhere, then we all gain.

If you think you ever have to queue for taxis here in the past few years you really are delusional  What you really mean as a ph youd like a share of my work aswell as your own.
